Suzanne Somers and Joyce DeWitt Reunite

Thirty one years later it is still known as one of the most infamous feuds in history of television.  But Suzanne Somers and Joyce DeWitt, the former stars of sitcom Three’s Company, have buried the hatchet.  And John Ritter, who was trying to reunite the two in a guest appearance on his final sitcom, 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, must be smiling up above.

Somers, of course, was abruptly fired from top-rated Three’s Company in 1981 after failing to show up to work on multiple occasions during a heated contract negotiation.  Ritter and DeWitt felt slighted, and the two severed contact with Somers.  Ritter and Somers mended fences years later, but DeWitt held out until her appearance on Somers’ web series Breaking Through.

“You know you can’t plant feelings, but right now I am very overwhelmed with emotion,” said Somers.  “After all the therapy that I have had in my life, one of the things that I think is important is to see the part that you play in your own drama.  I probably pissed you all off.  If I did I am really sorry.  I just needed money at the time.”

“I am really glad we are doing this,” responded DeWitt.  “For the last 30 some odd years when ever the subject of Three’s Company comes up I have relentlessly said the reason it is worth remembering is because it created an opportunity for all of us to laugh together.  This was a chance to celebrate Three’s Company with you and talk about the joy of that piece and the elegance of those people that we loved and cherished and worked with.”
