All My Children Fans Outraged by its Departure

New ABC daytime talk show The Chew, hosted by Mario Batali, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly, Daphne Oz and Michael Symon, continued to lose steam.  Based on the 56 metered markets, day three of The Chew, which stepped in for canceled daytime serial All My Children, dipped to a 1.8 rating/6 share in the overnights on Wednesday, based on Nielsen Media Research.  Comparably, that was a loss of 36 percent in rating and three share points from the lead-in average (2.9/ 9, which is a combination of syndicated programming and local news) and 14 percent in rating and one share point from All My Children one year earlier (2.1/ 7 in Sept. 2010).  Three telecasts to-date, The Chew is averaging a 2.0/ 6 out of a 2.9/10 for the lead-in.  All My Children in Sept. 2010 was a 2.1/ 7.

As a benchmark, here is The Chew by day:

Monday 9/26 – Lead-in: 3.0/10, The Chew: 2.1/ 7
Tuesday 9/27 – Lead-in: 2.9/10, The Chew: 1.9/ 6
Wednesday 9/28 – Lead-in: 2.8/ 9, The Chew: 1.8/ 6

Brian Frons is getting his comeuppance. He doesn’t know what he’s doing and this is proof. AMC fans were not going to turn their tv on for this crap

Thank you for this information. I would also like to point out that there are markets in the country that did not get AMC’s finale until Monday. Dallas the #5 market in the country is one of these areas. Therefore as I understand it the ratings for the SPEW’s debut, also had those that were still watching AMC included. In addition ABC is propagandizing the fact that the SPEW had a better opening than the View, while not pointing out that when the VIew premiered it was only in certain markets. Even in some of those markets the View didn’t air until 2am. This is comparing apples to oranges and just another attempt by ABC to justify the “death of soaps”. Luckily we know better.

I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN AND I COULDNT BE MORE HAPPIER ABOUT IT. IM A LONG TIME SOAP FAN I ALONG WITH SO MANY OTHER SOAP FANS ARE SO MAD AT ABC FOR CANCELLING ALL MY CHILDREN & ONE LIFE TO LIVE. WE WILL CONTINUE TO BOYCOTT ABC UNTIL THEY MAKE THIS RIGHT….

NO SOAPS IN OUR HOUSE? NO ABC IN OUR HOUSE!

I have to say…you fans of All My Children are a dedicated group! You go!!!

It’s a cooking show, like the other 50 or so on Food Network, Cooking Channel and like the thousands of cooking segments on local stations.

All My Children was great, socially relevant, great acting, great writing for most of 41 years. I watched 5 minutes of The Chew and couldn’t keep from crying that last week on ABC there was Greenlee and Ryan lying on the grass keeping their promise of a surprise of the day.

It’s a tragedy that when The Chew cast were in High School they were probably those who rushed home to watch Luke and Laura and enjoyed the summer daily delight of choosing between AMC, Another World, As The World Turns, Guiding Light, Search For Tomorrow, etc. that are without doubt the best shows in Daytime TV history.

Now they entertain us with cracking eggs. What a tragedy. GO PROSPECT PARK, I’ll get a computer adapter as soon as All My Children And One Life To Live start.

I had stopped watching AMC after almost 40 years, because they had done so much to try to run it in the ground. I refuse to watch the Chew. I am so happy the ratings are down. Wait until they see what happens to their ratings when OLTL goes off the air. There’s sl on other channels. Goodbye ABC!

  • Sue

They must be disappointed by the numbers which will clearly go down. After all that publicity. HA! I sure hope Prospect Park follows through on continuing the soaps on line – perhaps they will be able to get it back on television. I must say I was disappointed Susan L. didn’t sign with them. Ungrateful…

Happy for this too, I switched my DVR to NBC’s Days of Our Lives. The Chew won’t be DVR’d in my house.

  • Savannah

Yay. I couldn’t believe it when AMC and OLTL were cancelled. I for one have never been a Days fan but I’ve made the switch and it was actually enjoyable. We have to support our soaps before they all disappear and who knows maybe one day AMC will be back on our screens once again. Support The Soaps.

  • tony curtis

I am thrilled and can’t wait for the final of the week. I hope this show tanks. I only am watching (now) One Life To Live and General Hospital on ABC and then its off. I will never forgive ABC. On a brighter note saw where Disney Parks having money issues. I hope they go under and finally get out to the TV business and take Frons and Sweeny with them. I can’t wait for them to be unemployed. When are you going to post the update Spew ratings???

I am totally wowed and prepraed to take the next step now.

Hopefully, Robert Iger has his eye on ABC’s dismal failure & those responsible for perpetuating the myth that AMC (along with OLTL & GH) are a dying breed – because they definitely are not! The legions of fans are speaking out & they are very loud & clear! After all the money spent by ABC/Disney to flaunt their so called budget saving programming, they are getting exactly what they deserve – no one is watching! No one will ever watch! Those who are most loyal to AMC, OLTL & GH, will not only not watch any daytime slot replacement programming, they will not watch any ABC/Disney primetime programming either. Sponsors have an eye an ear on what is going on & won’t continue running ads for products that are no longer being purchased. Soap fans are not little old ladies sitting in rocking chairs, who never get out of the house. Soap fans are male & female, young & old, but most of all, they hold the buying power of the nation! Hoover will forever be endorsed by all the soap fans for the stand they took in April, when ABC announced they were cancelling their daytime dramas. Prospect Park’s announcement that they plan to continue the shows online is greatly appreciated. However, a better announcement, thus insuring the most viewers (buying power), would be that they have secured the rights to air these beloved shows on another network/cable station.
