It looks like Fox is making the right choice in airing sports on Saturday.

Agree. If an expensive and well-made (‘From the creator of Downton Abbey’) “Titanic” mini-series on the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the ship doesn’t get people interested-enough to tune in on a Saturday night then nothing else scripted will. Sports, reality TV, burn-offs and ‘encores’… that’s Saturday night on network TV for a while until, eventually, the network gives the night back to the affiliates (that’s where I’m convinced Saturday nights are eventually going).

NASCAR on FOX did very well. Almost a full demo point improvement from the last episode of Cops. That’s terrible news for Cops as there really isn’t a reason to air it on Saturdays when sports pulled these type of ratings. If sports aren’t available for broadcat on a particular week, FOX could air repeats or burnoffs and not even worry about a regularly scheduled show.

Did ABC even aggressively market Titanic? I can’t remember seeing one commercial for it on ABC.

As for Saturday nights, cable still does very well with it. A&E, Animal Planet, CMT, HGTV, and DIY all have originals and they all do well enough to get renewed. If cable can figure out original entertainment programming, broadcast networks can also. What I think doesn’t work is repeats on Saturdays. Networks are just wasting timeslots with that as it doesn’t earn high enough sampling to justify its placement on schedule.

I’m not too hopeful for it to be a ratings hit but I am hopeful that NYC 22 is good. I love a good cop show and there isn’t really one on right now (I guess you could count Blue Bloods but that has other elements). I still miss Detroit 1-8-7

No surprise ABC dumped Titanic on Saturday night; it was AWFUL! I’m shocked it was able to remain at a 0.8 for almost the entire night. I now know why James Cameron had to spend well over $200 million dollars to make his epic version of Titanic.

“Well made”? I agree with yankeesrj12 – last night’s “Titanic” was dreadfully boring. I couldn’t help but think of the famous James Cameron version, which was much more entertaining.

I think Downton Abbey’s Julian Fellowes just did this Titanic project as a money grab from Britain’s ITV and nothing more. He kept all the good writing for his own hit show while mailing it in for this forgettable project.

You do realize ABC did not promote this miniseries once. So what did you expect?

Is the other Titanic mini-series, Titanic: Blood and Steel, ever going to make it to air? I haven’t heard anything about it since it was ordered way back when.

Edit: According to this Youtube link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6NSEg-hgzk , it premieres in Autumn 2012, but I don’t believe an American network has picked up the rights yet.
