The Revolution pulled similiar numbers to what The Event did two years ago and The Event had Chuck as a lead-in. We will see if people stick around for the mystery.
Edit: The Revolution also did about what Smash’s premiere did last year (11.44M 3.8/10 Demo) and that went down to under a 2 demo and six million viewers.
Revolution may end up lasting longer than The Event because of its lead-in… but the drop in the half hour is definitely concerning. I can see this trending similarly to Smash.
The MOB DOCTOR being DOA was not a surprising turn of events. It’s what happens when you marry two TIRED genre’s…the Medical Drama with the Mob Drama. LOL @ whoever greenlighted this fiasco.
Can REVOLUTION hold up? It would be good to see a “LOST” type of show succeed for a change.
The half-hour numbers for “Revolution” are somewhat sobering. NBC (and other networks) have proven that they can launch a new show to impressive numbers, but the problem – especially for serialized shows like “Revolution” – is keeping that interest throughout the season. The bigger question is how will “Revolution” stand up against first-run competition on CBS and ABC next week?
Here are the numbers from TVBytheNumbers website in regards to how these season/series premieres performed in regards to recent time period performers (based on 18-49 demographic ratings):
Bones: down 30% from 2011 season premiere (which followed “X-Factor” on Thursday), but up 21% from May finale.
The Mob Doctor: down 51% from the 2011 premiere of “Terra Nova”.
Revolution: up 39% from premiere of “The New Normal” last week, up 156% from 2011 premiere of “The Playboy Club”, and up 8% from the Feb. 2012 premiere of “Smash”.
“Revolution” was NBC’s highest rated drama premiere (in 18-49 demo ratings) since 2007′s “The Bionic Woman”…and we all know how “Bionic Woman” turned out.
Here are the high points for Revolution, and none of the shows mentioned you want to be associated with:
The top drama premiere on NBC in five years – Bionic Woman in September 2007 (5.7)
The top drama premiere on any network in three years, since ABC’s V in October 2009 (5.2)
The highest-rated 10 PM premiere in five years, since ABC’s Big Shots in September 2007 (4.5)
All three lasted for a short time, with V going the longest: 2 seasons, 22 episodes.
Let’s see what Revolution does in week 2- that half-hour drop doesn’t look too good. What do you think they want- a solid 2nd place behind Hawaii Five-O and ahead of Castle? I’d think DWTS and The Voice would cancel each other out pretty much…
