I’m not surprised at the bleed for Nashville at the half hour. I watched the show on Hulu plus a week or so ago & was surprised at how slow it was given all of the postive press it has received.
For me, I’m not interested in it & I’m a fan of ABC in general & last year’s Wednesday line-up was one I watched the whole way through!
Opposite CBS’ veteran CSI and NBC’s debut of Chicago Fire in the 10 o’clock hour, ABC’s debut of Nashville opened at #1 in Adults 18-49. Head to head against its drama debut competition in the hour, ABC’s Nashville towered over NBC’s Chicago Fire in viewers (+41%) and young adults (+47%). In addition, the new ABC drama dominated its time period with Adults 18-34 and across all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).
· Nashville drew ABC’s largest series audience in the time period in 1 year and its top Adult 18-49 number since the beginning of last November – since 9/21/11 and 11/2/11.
· Nashville qualifies as ABC’s biggest drama debut in 1 year among Adults 18-49 – since Once Upon a Time on 10/23/11.
· Nashville was up year-to-year for ABC in the time period, topping Revenge on the year-ago night (on 10/12/11) in viewers (+14%) and young adults (+4%). Please note, Revenge had a stronger lead-in for its debut telecast last year.
· In its namesake market, Nashville delivered a massive 21.9/33 Household rating.
CSI, up +0.1 from last first run 2.6 from 2.5 (season premiere) and tops highly promoted Nashville premiere in viewers (10.58m vs. 8.98m) and is just -0.2 behind in A18-49
CSI topped Nashville in A18-49 at 10:30 PM (2.6 vs. 2.5) as Nashville loses 1 mil viewers and 0.5 ratings pts (2.5 from 3.0)
We’ve probably seen the last of Animal Practice on Wednesdays. Whitney is ready to go and it seems like an easy switch. Chicago Fire debuted as well as it could be expected considering the lead in. Growing at 10 PM is something that very few shows are able to do, even in its debut.
With Nashville, it did as well as expected. But the drop at the half is very concerning. Again, I don’t see this show being as strong as Revenge last year. The Neighbors at a 1.9 is still something ABC is going to have to address sooner rather than later.
Some sources have Arrow at a 1.1, others at a 1.3. Either way, it’s great for Arrow and CW. The real question though is how well will it hold?
