    “GRACEPOINT”
    Thursday 9 p.m.

A remake of the UK’s “Broadchurch, when a young boy is found dead on an idyllic beach, a major police investigation gets underway in the small California seaside town where the tragedy occurred. Josh Hamilton, Jack Irvine, Nikolas Filipovic, Michael Pena and Beth Solano star.

    -Lead-in: “Bones”
-Competition: “Scandal” (ABC), Thursday Night Football / “Two and a Half Men” and “The McCarthys” (CBS), “Bad Judge” and “A To Z” (NBC), “Reign”

    -The Scoop:
Executive Producer Carolyn Bernstein on the inevitable comparisons to “Broadchurch”:

“We did consider different starting places, different ideas for the first episode. And I think we kept coming back to it’s the first episode of “Broadchurch,” not shot for shot, but the way that the story was told was so well done that why would we contort ourselves to figure out a different way to tell the story when that was the smartest, most compelling way to launch this particular story. I know you guys have only seen the first two. We promise that, as the series progresses, it really diverges in pretty big large ways from the original, but particularly in that first episode, it felt like the smartest, best launching pad. We didn’t want to try to fix something that we all thought was excellent.”

    -The Reality:
With veteran “Bones” as its lead-in, the immediate advantage for “Gracepoint” is the some lead-in support. It won’t be plentiful, but it is better than what Fox has to offer in most time periods. “Gracepoint,” however, faces a great deal of competition, particularly Thursday Night Football on CBS in the early fall. And the new drama on Fox getting the majority of attention is “Gotham.” While “Gracepoint” could garner enough attention to stay on the air past midseason, it may be one of the many Fox dramas historically (“Almost Human” most recently), that could be at 50-50 odds for a second season. With that in mind, consider “Gracepoint” smack in the middle.

-Odds of Survival for “Gracepoint” (Based on 1-1 to 10-1 odds): 5-1
