HANDICAPPING THE NEW NBC SERIES

A trio of guys (Zach Cregger, Jesse Branford and Anthony Anderson) living in the same building who must deal with parenthood despite not being the most mature in nature. Jimmy Fallon is one of the executive producers, with former Cosby kid Tempestt Bledsoe and Sopranos daughter Jamie-Lynn Sigler two of the series regulars.

Tuesday 8:30m p.m. ET
-Lead-in: Animal Practice
-The Competition: The Neighbors (ABC), Survivor: Nicaragua (CBS), The X Factor (FOX), Arrow (CW)

-Who Was at the Panel:

Antony Anderson, Tempestt Bledsoe, Jesse Bradford, Zach Creggar, Jamie-Lynn Sigler; and executive producers Jimmy Fallon (via satellite), Charlie Grandy, Amy Ozols, Kenny Schwartz and Rick Wiener.

-The Scoop:

Jimmy Fallon on the evolution of Guys With Kids:

“When we came up with this idea, it was Amy and I, who is my producing partner, we were just talking about all the guys that we were seeing around New York City and Times Square, like with the Baby Bjorns and the babies on the backs of their bikes, and I was saying, like, these are like young good looking guys. They’re just embracing the role of dad, and we both said at the same time DILFs.

And so when we pitched the idea for DILFs, which you should know, if you know what a MILF is, this is a DILF. And immediately, thank God, NBC said, “Yeah. We probably can’t call the show DILF, so we’ll have to change that.” But basically it’s young parents, and it’s just very positive, very fun. It’s very, like, I would say, late night in a way, because we just want to have a good time. It’s not really about what a drag it is to have kids. It’s more like, “I’m bringing the kid to the baseball game, and I forgot diapers. How do I make a diaper out of a hot dog wrapper and a napkin?”

-The Reality:
Yes, we know…NBC has too many comedies on the fall schedule. Nothing established is a hit and four new entries is a risk. But with HUT levels higher at 8:30 p.m., there is always the possibility more viewers will tune-in for Guys With Kids than its lead-in, Animal Practice. And the bar of comparison is set particularly low thanks to short-lived year-ago occupant Free Agents. While ratings could be limited, you do not need a large audience to stay on NBC, and Guys With Kids (the only new NBC multi-camera sitcom) looks comfortable enough to potentially succeed.

-Chance of Survival for Guys With Kids (Based on 1-1 to 10-1 odds):
4-1
