Good Afternoon America on ABC Continues to Lag

July 13, 2012 by marcberman in Highlights with 16 Comments

THURSDAY OVERNIGHTS FLAT FROM WEDNESDAY, BUT STILL DOWN

The positive news for ABC’s Good Afternoon American on Thursday was consistency, with a 1.5 rating/4 share in the weighted metered market households equal to Wednesday, according to Nielsen. But this fourth telecast was still 29 percent below former occupant One Life to Live in July 2011, and 17 percent beneath the lead-in average (1.8/ 5). Results in the three key demos…women 18-49, women 25-54 and women 18-34…were also on the downside as follows:

Women 18-49:
July 2011: 1.0/ 7, Lead-in: 0.8/ 6, Good Afternoon America: 0.7/ 5

Women 25-54:
July 2011: 1.2/ 8, Lead-in: 1.0. 7, Good Afternoon America: 0.8/ 6

Women 18-34:
July 2011: 0.6/ 4, Lead-in: 0.5/ 4, Good Afternoon America: 0.4/ 3

Viewers watching ABC in daytime are still missing their canceled soaps, no doubt.

I can only hope advertisers are noting that their ad dollars are being wasted during this show. It’s pretty funny that even The Chew is doing better than their highly touted GMA franchise.

Viewers want escapism in the afternoons, not news and fluff.

Yes, viewers of daytime are missing our beloved soaps and the ratings are proving this. Next Failure will be Katie… and ABC’s greedy money spent on swinging her over.

The daytime watchers have shown ABC we don’t want talk or reality shows in the afternoon. We want our Soap Operas back. Until OLTL & AMC return the boycott remains. We won’t watch Katie either so ABC needs to listen.

One Life to Live and All My Children will NEVER return. Move on.

Why does this say it is positive news? They want only 1.5 million people watching this? All they care about is news, reality, talk all that are cheaper to make. The key word is cheaper. You get what you pay for ABC. Personally I don’t think they will ever bring back our beloved shows. What I am hopeful for is a combination of them on GH. Why can’t GH be for 2 hours with back and forth from Llanview, PineValley and Port Charles all fictional places that I called home for almost 50 years. ABC and I are done for good except GH. Seriously if they did a combination, their viewership would increase by large amounts. Now ABC is at the bottom with no hope of improvement. ABC will never admit their mistakes or listen to their viewers. SELL ABC.

There are still viewers out there waiting for ABC to reinstate AMC and OLTL. Note to the advertisers of ABC daytime: If you’re not running your ads during General Hospital, there are a lot of people you are not reaching with your ads. Seeing the ratings for the replacement programming, I would suggest getting a discount on your ad rates or to run your ads on NBC and CBS during their soaps.

I’m still wondering why ANYONE would watch The Chew……….yuck. Boycott ABC/Disney.

I hope the ABC executives are seeing that the “eyeballs” are tuned to General Hospital. If they would only use their eyeballs at that network, they would see which genre of shows the people want.

The only thing I have to say to Good Afternoon America is Goodbye, GAA!

The only thing I watch on ABC daytime is General Hospital – the only show I watch in the evening show is Castle — I use to watch all of ABCs shows– the good shows and the bad shows but since ABC took OlTL off the air I could care less what ABCs new line up is — I am not watching –

This is the best it will be; only going down from here. Viewers are on overload with this type of show, no matter who hosts, is the guest or what the topic is. We don’t need yet another perky set of co-hosts yapping about the latest food craze, followed by the latest diet craze, followed by the latest health scare, etc. I want my shows back! #OLTL & #AMC

Not watching The Spew. Didn’t watch The Revolting. Not watching Good Morning, Afternoon or Night America. And I won’t be watching Katie Couric!
Give me back my soaps! Do you get it yet, Disney?

  12. LindseyHJul 14, 2012 at 10:18 pm

Yes, we are missing our cancelled soaps and we will continue to boycott ABC/D except for the General Hospital hour.

I want ABC to know that they have lost these eyeballs and my respect for their networks daytime lineup. I don’t care what they put on the TV during the day. I am enjoying having my day back, after being a loyal viewer for 43 years. Just to find out that I have reached an age that this network no longer feels that I am a valuable viewer. I hope their ratings continue to go down. And if they keep trying to ram these talk/reality shows down everyones throats. They Will.

General Hospital is all the ABC I watch!!! I will not support any more news or cooking shows on ABC, NBC or CBS. There are millions of people that want the soap operas back. These networks have made great mistakes. Look at TNT adding Dallas. I love it. It is outstanding!! It is one of those hours where you run to the TV and can’t wait til the commercials are over. It is love, drama, heartbreak, mystery and fun. Not to mention sexy as hell. Kudos to TNT!!!! Now the rest of you networks pull your heads together and realize that you are losing money by not having the soap operas on. We do not need 5 hours of news or another show to tell us we aren’t good enough. And these show like The Talk on CBS are just stupid. I would not take advice from one of them.

No matter what this Networks put on in Daytime it will go down .we are and we will continue to Boycott these shows. We will not give up. we want our stories back .what is it going to take for these people wake up .and smells those numbers.

  16. SweetmamaAug 14, 2012 at 1:48 am

This is not what I want watch in the afternoon .I want to watch my stories.no matter what show they put on I will continue to boycott and I wont be watching katie either.
