COMEDIAN AND SNL SKETCH WRITER DEAD AT 59

Tom Davis, the comedic writing partner of Al Franken, has passed away. He was 59 and died of throat and neck cancer yesterday at his home in the Hudson Valley section of New York. Davis worked as a writer for Saturday Night Live from 1975 to 1980 and from 1986 to 1994, and created several memorable skits including the extraterrestrials known as The Coneheads, Nick the Lounge Singer with Bill Murray, and Dan Akyroyd’s now classic impersonation of Julia Child. He also appeared on camera on several occasions, including opposite Franken in theatrical One More Saturday Night in 1986, and briefly returned as a writer on SNL in 2003.
