NBC’s coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony from Olympic Stadium in London finished as the most-watched for a Summer Games on record with 40.7 million average viewers (from 8 p.m. to 12:02 a.m. ET), according to the fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen. Comparably, that was 900,000 more viewers than the Atlanta Games (39.8 million), 5.8 million more than the 2008 Beijing Olympics (34.9 million) and 15.3 million more than Athens in 2004 (25.4 million).
