HANDICAPPING THE 21 NEW NETWORK SERIES
The odds of survival are in for the entire crop upcoming crop of network fall entries, with our predictions (1-1, the best; to 10-1, the worst) based on several benchmarks including:
1. The time period and competition
2. Lead-in (if not an 8 p.m. ET show)
3. Recent and year-ago time period results
4. The overall position of the network
5. Potential demographic profile
6. Potential social media presence
7. Buzz factor, if any
Unfortunately, nothing seems like a sure thing with the best odds, 2-1, awarded to drama Vegas on CBS and the worst, 10-1, to drama Emily Owens, M.D. on The CW. Sorry Mama Meryl Streep, but this show with daughter Mamie Gummer might fare better on a cable net like ABC Family or Lifetime.
Here is the list (broken out by network and in the order of the time period):

I still think Partners will do bad. I don’t know the first person who is excited about that show. And CBS being fast to push 2 Broke Girls to 9PM could be a hit or a miss. CBS got that initial surge to their comedies because of the Aston pumping. But without that and that now being old news, who knows?

Not sure about Nashville…judging by promos, I have a LONE STAR flashback…and we all know long that one lasted

You are probably right about Partners. The pilot was truly bad.

How about Mob Doctor, it’s the worst concept. Seriously? I really want to see a doctor treating mobsters. Cancel it now.

Unofficially, The THE NEIGHBORS from ABC, PARTNERS from CBS and THE NEW NORMAL for NBC.
None of the comedies look great. All are capable of not making a second season.

Dabg Go On is the longest odds, I’ve actually been enjoying the promos as I like Mathew Perry. I assume Shawn Johnson isn’t actually on the show but I wish she was, lol

I meant “dang” not dabg

I thought the pilot of Go On was awful…very depressing.
TomAug 1, 2012 at 4:19 am
I’m not doubting you Marc, I was just hoping it was good. Hopefully Mathew Perry gets another good show eventually.

Go On is nothing more than old NBC sitcom Dear John. Do you remember that show?
TV-aholicAug 1, 2012 at 6:43 pm
Yes. DEAR JOHN was one of the typical NBC comedies that was only able to survive because of its great lead ins. I rank it up there with CAROLINE IN THE CITY, UNION STATION, VICTORIA’S CLOSET, SUDDENLY SUSAN, and the list goes on and on….

There were so many bad NBC comedies that survived in those days.
AmmitAug 8, 2012 at 5:03 pm
Wow! That’s a lot of dreck. What happened to that Sarah Chalke comedy, and the one with J K Simmons, they both looked pretty good.

Did you really think Ben and Kate was bland? I laughed aloud A LOT. Partners is BAD and the casting choices were miserable. Sophia Bush and David have no chemistry. But Michael Urie is worth watching.
