The Gap Continues to Narrow in Daytime Talk

December 13, 2012 by marcberman in Highlights with 8 Comments

THE VIEW’S LEAD CONTINUES TO SHRINK

The View on ABC remains top-rated among the three network daytime talk shows. That is not about to change anytime soon. But based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings from Nielsen for the week of December 3, and compared to the year-ago week, The Chew on ABC has narrowed the total viewer gap from 1.33 million to 830,000 viewers; and The Talk on CBS from 1.54 million to 910,000 viewers. The View averaged 3.12 million viewers — down 16 percent from the comparable year-ago week. Next was The Chew at 2.38 million (-4 percent), followed by The Talk at 2.17 million (+ 2 percent).

Demographically, all three talkers suffered erosion year-to-year among key women 25-54 and women 18-49. The View averaged 731,000 women 25-54 (-19 percent), followed by The Talk (424,000: -16 percent) and The Chew (419,000: -12 percent). And The View averaged 606,000 women 18-49 (-16 percent), followed by The Talk (129,000: -28 percent) and The Chew (128,000: -24 percent).

Thanks for keeping us up to date. These lagging demos cannot be making advertisers very happy. Like the above poster, I’d love some updated info on Katie when you have it.

Glad they are falling, but ABC has to realize soon that none of the shows that they have put on in place of the soaps are not watch worthy. They need to go.

      Ronnie,

While I will wait for Marc to give the official word on how GH is faring, I believe it’s safe to assume that GH will hold its position between The View/The Chew

It’s amazing how GH, B&B, and Y&R are all above The Talk and The Chew. The View is the only legit talk show that’s ever going to get those high numbers.

Actually, GH is the NUMBER ONE SHOW in 18-49 Demo on ABC!!!!! So…GH is on top of all of those talk shows including The View.
