HIGHLY PROMOTED DEBUT ONLY ON PAR WITH RECENT NEW SITCOMS
Former ABC sitcom Cougar Town debuted with its fourth season on TBS with 2.2 million viewers, 1.3 million adults 18-49 and 613,000 adults 18-34 in the Tuesday 10 p.m. half-hour (accoridng to the Live Plus Same Day data from Nielsen). This was, of course, considerably below its average on ABC (which benefited, no doubt, out of Modern Family). No one expected a consistent performance given the change in platforms. But, comparatively, Cougar Town was only on par with the debuts of recent TBS comedies Men At Work (Viewers: 2.65 million; A18-49: 1.6 million; A18-49: 851,000 on May 24) and Sullivan & Son (Viewers: 2.5 million; A18-49: 1.3 million; A18-49: 612,000 on July 12). And, given the hype, Cougar Town could have…and should have…opened stronger.
