CBS Sweeps Week of January 14

January 23, 2013 by marcberman in Highlights with 0 Comments

WEEKLY RATINGS ROUND-UP

Once upon a time Fox was always the dominant network courtesy of American Idol. But CBS took the week of January 14 with ease thanks to the mammoth 47.71 million viewers (according to the Live Plus Same Day data from Nielsen) who were present to see Baltimore at New England on The AFC Championship on Sunday. The 12th season, two-episode (Wednesday and Thursday) premiere of Fox’s American Idol finished 4th and 6th overall, respectively, in total viewers and 3th and 4th, respectively, among adults 18-49. But 17.93 million viewers and a 6.0 rating/18 share among adults 18-49 for the higher rated of the two (on Wednesday) is down close to 20 percent from one year earlier.

In series-premiere news, Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries (which declined in episode two) was a major disappointment on The CW at just 1.61 million viewers (#95 out of 102 entries) and a 0.6/ 2 (#91 tie) in the demo in the Monday 8 p.m. hour. Also struggling among the new freshman series are NBC drama Deception, which pales in comparison to former (and returning) Monday 10 p.m. occupant Revolution (which benefited out of The Voice); and NBC Thursday 9:30 p.m. sitcom 1600 Penn. Note to NBC: Single-camera sitcoms just do not resonate.

In the Monday 8-10 p.m. battle between ABC’s The Bachelor and NBC’s The Biggest Loser (which are temporary replacements for Dancing With the Stars and The Voice), The Bachelor led into total viewers (7.49 million vs. 6.32 million), while the two tied among adults 18-49 with a decent 2.4/ 6 each.

What follows are the Live Plus Same Day ratings for the week of January 14 based on total viewers and the three key demos (adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and adults 18-34), followed by the top 30 rankings in total viewers and adults 18-49.
