CBS AND FOX DOMINATE; NOTABLE OVERALL AUDIENCE LOSSES

The immediate observation for the week of February 11 was erosion, with four of the five broadcast networks – stable The CW excluded – at levels below one year earlier. Demo losses of 22 to 28 percent for Fox this week is a reflection of American Idol, which continues to bleed despite still ranking amongst the top-rated shows in primetime.

CBS, which has not benefited minus any new breakout hits this season, remains the network to beat in total viewers. The Eye net also dominated among adults 25-54, while Fox took top-rated honors among adults 18-49 and adults 18-34. ABC finished third in three of the four categories, while fourth-place NBC has collapsed minus The Voice and Sunday Night Football.

In series-premiere news, ABC drama Zero Hour was limited in the Thursday 8 p.m. hour (opposite The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men on CBS, and American Idol on Fox) with 6.38 million viewers (#35 overall) and a 1.4 rating/4 share among adults 18-49 (tied for #45). Better news among the new crop of midseason entries remains Kevin Bacon drama The Following on Fox, which built from lead-in Bones this week by nine percent among adults 18-49 (2.4/ 6 vs. 2.2/ 5), with a respectable 7.79 million viewers (#27). But the other two new Monday dramas — The Carrie Diaries on The CW and Deception on NBC — continue to struggle.

What follows are the Live Plus Same Day ratings from Nielsen for the week (with change versus the comparable year-ago period in parentheses), followed by the Top 30 rated programs in both total viewers and adults 18-49. Keep in mind that the Tuesday 9-10:30 p.m. block was not rated due to the State of the Union Address by President Obama.
