He may not have controlled the universe in his short-lived 2002-03 Fox sitcom, but Andy Richter could be heading back to the network as host of a new game show called “Step Up.” The project, from Endemol USA (“Big Brother,” “Wipeout,” “1 vs. 100”), will give contestants the chance to win cash prizes by attempting to climb a pyramid with greater awards but more risk that could send them home with nothing.
“In addition to our diverse slate of programming, Endemol USA has put a significant amount of effort into developing the next hit game show,” said David Goldberg, chairman and CEO for Endemol North America, in a statement. “This is the second primetime game show we will produce this year. Step Up is everything you hope for in a game show. It’s a clean and straight-forward premise, filled with high stakes and drama, played on a spectacular stage.
“Step Up” comes three years after Richter was expected to host a new version of classic game show “Pyramid” for CBS and later TBS, but both passed on the revival.
