ABC NEEDS TO KEEP GENERAL HOSPITAL RUNNING
The View on ABC was the most-watched entry in daytime talk, of course, with 2.59 million viewers for the week of March 26, according to Nielsen. And The Revolution on ABC remains the eyesore, with erosion from year-ago occupant One Life to Live this week of 1.25 million viewers (or 49 percent) and as much as 67 percent among women 18-34. The Revolution tied its series-low in total viewers (1.32 million), with results in the three key female demos no higher than a 0.6 rating/4 share among women 25-54. The Chew, meanwhile, narrowed the gap versus All My Children one-year earlier in total viewers (2.21 vs. 2.38 million), but the demo erosion is still in the double-digit percentages.
Since ABC is unlikely to cancel both hours, The Revolution is the one to needs to go…and soon. Here are the results for The Chew versus All My Children and The Revolution versus One Life to Live.

If the Revolution was primetime, ABC would have yanked that piece of garbage in a New York minute. The ABC execs don’t want to face up to the mess they’ve created in daytime because as soon as Iger gets the picture, heads will roll. Iger’s head can roll, too, but it probably won’t.
I can’t imagine they would cancel GH at this point, but the stupidity at ABC seems to know no bounds. It also looks like the boycotting soapers have cut into primetime ratings. Good for us!

If ABC cancels General Hospital in light of the consistently eroding of ratings numbers for The Revolution and in the face of the resurgent, entertaining story lines on General Hospital, then we will all know that the executives at ABC are wishing for their network to die.
I watch no programs on ABC except for General Hospital. If GH goes, I will watch nothing on that network again.

I watch nothing on their network except GH. They will never bring back our shows so they are done with me. The minute they screw with GH, that is it permanently. I really despise them (ABC)

I don’t know about anyone else, but I for one cannot even believe that anyone watches the Chew either. Just seeing the commercials piss me off. That being said, I am completely delighted that The Revolution is a bust. And if ABC replaces GH with anything, I’m out. As it is that’s the only show I’ll watch on ABC anymore. Sad. ABC was for many years the only network I ever watched.

Thanks again, Marc, for keeping us informed. The writing SHOULD be on the wall for Disney/Abc but then, again, they don’t seem to do anything that makes sense or is logical. The Revolution, obviously, should be the program to be cancelled. Decision time is almost upon us and it will be very interesting to see what they do. If General Hospital is cancelled, the fan uproar will be deafening. Disney/ABC, do you really want to lose the few viewers you still have? Make the right decision and take the Revolution off the air.

I am very glad that the Revolution continues to drop in the ratings. If it were a soap, it would already be cancelled. I do not believe the Chew is narrowing the gap between it and AMC. From what I have seen on Their commercials, it is a culinary nightmare!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again……….ABC/D, can you say NEW COKE?! Taking off the soaps is an even bigger disaster! What were you thinking?! Get rid of, at the very least, the albatross known as “The Revolution” and save General Hospital. While you are at it, return the rights to All My Children and One Life To Live to Agnes Nixon. Buy a clue!

They, by now have to realize they failed with the Revolution and will continue to drop in ratings. My question to ABC now is when are you going to pull it off life support.

I just read that GCB is having great ratings. Who can say why people want to watch more crap from ABC. No one wants their crappy lifestyle shows. I watched the Revolution (in a commercial on GH) ask someone how many times a week they have sex? This is the worst show in the history of TV. Get rid of the horrible Revolution now.

One question? To neilsons do you not know we women 60+ watch TV. Don’t we count? Well we do & we think ABC is nuts! They need to wake up & adnit their errors. Drop the replacement shows & bring back OLTL & AMC. Keep GH & then Katie. They will see their ratings go UP! As it is now it’s going to keep going down. Why? Because we soap opera fans will never give up. We love our afternoon families & want them back. The boycott stays on til then.

It is a shame that ABC WON’T cancel both hours. Thank you again Marc for an update on the continued downward spiral of The Revolution. ABC continues to look foolish to the millions of viewers it has lost by canceling first All My Children, but (in my opinion) then the fatal blow of One Life to Live. “Love in the Afternoon” is showing it has proven demand and following. I hope ABC sees by the ratings decline that nearly one year after they dropped the axe on two wonderful serial dramas, that the fans have not forgotten.

I hope the ratings keep falling for both shows. Goes to show that AMC and OLTL should never have been cancelled. I will continue to boycott ABC/D except for the General Hospital hour.

Amazing that Revulsion has not been cancelled! ABC/D execs really don’t want to admit their mistakes. Is this why ABC won’t give up the rights because they want to put the soaps back on if the ratings fiasco continues?
I am trying to hard to watch GH to do my part to save the genre but I so miss OLTL and AMC.

We all know that the “Revoltion” as many of us call it would fail before it got out of the gate. However The “Spew” as we also so “affectionately” call it is not much better, their numbers have been in the 1. some odd million viewers over the past two weeks, one can not tell me that they have jumped back up that hi, plus the fact that they are no where near the numbers that AMC had and will never reach those numbers. The Spew as we call it fits the name perfectly as it makes me gag to even see their ads as they are idiots and everyone I know feels the same way. My neighbor was forced to watch it one day while waiting for her car to be fixed and she thought the show was revolting and disgusting, and the most unsanitary cooks she has ever seen, she could not get over that this show replaced AMC and she didn’t even watch AMC, but she is however a soap fan and like I along with millions of viewers is boycotting ABC/D except for GH! BOTH SHOWS NEED TO GO NOT JUST ONE!!!

Thank you, Marc, for keeping ABC/D’s feet to the fire on this travesity they call “programming.” I am so enjoying seeing the numbers continue to go down for the Revulsion; the flat numbers on the Eeww tell me that they have done as much as they can with that ridiculous format. I have not given up hope for OLTL’s return (or AMC); continue to LOVE watching General Hospital and am learning how to do a cartwheel for the day when someone at the Mouse network gets their head out of their butt and announces the cancellation of the Revulsion….

At this point I do not understand what the heck ABC/D is doing???? I really can’t believe with all the bad ratings and bad publicity why they don’t drop the crappy talk shows. One article after another, millions of posts and tweets and they still seem to have blinders on. Get it together ABC and get back to the business of soap operas. We want our shows back now!!!

I agree 100% with whoever said that if the Revolution were a Prime Time show ABC would have cancelled this trainwreck ages ago, look how fast they canceled Working It, how long was that on about 3 weeks? ABC is just ashamed to admit that they made a TERRIBLE mistake, if they know what’s good for them, they will leave GH alone!!!!

I hope ABC/D keeps GH on. I don’t watch any of ABCs morning lineup and only GH in the afternoon. I still watch DHW, DWTS,Castle and Modern Family. The Revolution and the fallout is dragging the network down.In the next few years the “baby boomers” will start retiring in record numbers.This audience has been watching the soaps for 40 plus years and they don’t even count this group in their demographics.This will be the group that will watch the soaps in real time AND has the most discretionary income which should be of great interest to the sponcers !!! Down 1 million viewers! As a Primetime show, the Revolution would have been gone by week 3. I have never heard of a marketing strategy that was designed to drive away customers. Is this a new business strategy ABC/Disney? As rapidly as the telecommunications industry is changing, broadcast TV as we know it may not exist in 10 years. ABC/Disney is chasing away the very, loyal, viewers they may need to survive. Bad business strategy. But then, the overpaid execs at ABC/Disney live in that rarified air that obscures reality from their view. Otherwise, they would see what is going on.

It annoys the heck out of me when people compare the ratings for The Chew and All My Children. Yes the ratings are almost the same…AFTER BRIAN FRONS and ABC trashed the soap to the point of non-recognition. BF hired loser writers that already ruined other soaps when they were cancelled, he eliminated fan favorite characters and pushed storylines that ignored the rules of good storytelling. It seems this way ABC could cancel the soaps without taking the blame. Did anyone mention that Brian Frons was not only in charge of soaps but also of new programming? It’s really a sad commentary when cheap is valued over quality.

It is hard to believe abc won’t own up and admit they made a huge mistake. Remember New Coke? People hated it and demanded the original Coke and Coca-Cola wisely listened, gave the customers what they wanted and watched their sales soar! The only way abc can dig themselves out of this hole and regain the viewers they have lost is to retain GH and bring AMC & OLTL back!

ABC/Disney can take their ratings, file them into a cabinet (some of you may know where this is going), make the board of doo doo head directors bend over, open wide, and stick their cabinets straight up…. I would match AMC’s & OLTL’s ratings from the end of ’08 and the start of 09 against the Spew and Revulsion’s ratings of any given one of ABC’s months; and the numbers still don’t lie. Thank you, Marc Berman, for your loyalty, your support, and your continued diligence to reporting the truth (which seems to be a long forgotten practice, among so many other character building qualities, in many parts of our everyday lives). I look forward to your next report.

How must it feel to be the laughing stock of network television? Oh, how I’d love to ask that to J.D. Roth, Tim Gunn, Ty Pennington, and the rest of the “lifestyle coaches” on “The Revolution”. But moreover, I would love to ask Anne Sweeney, Bob Iger, and yes, even that dear dunce, the erstwhile ABC Daytime President Brian Frons, how they feel publicly humiliated after having been proven so unequivocally wrong about what their audience wanted to see and was willing to watch.
We did not, we do not, nor will we ever want “The Revolution,” nor “The Chew,” nor any of your patronizing reality drivel. We want stories. We want “One Life to Live,” damnit! And yes, we still want “All My Children,” too. And we don’t want to lose “General Hospital.” And the ratings of ABC Daytime will continue to reflect these desires. ABC’s meek “Revolution” may already be on its last legs, but as far as I’m concerned, the soap revolution is far from over–and I for one am determined to continue fighting until we prevail.

It is very odd that ABC/Disney would have already cancelled any other show at any other time slot if their numbers were doing as poorly as these two unnecessary “eyesores” called talk shows. Save the soap fans some time and bring back OLTL & AMC now. They have proved their worth and the soapfans have proved theirs as well. It is time for ABC Disney to do the right thing. Money really doesn’t make you happy. Is it worth destroying the publics opinion of them. I feel like they destroyed a part of my family & there is millions feeling the same. We loved these soap people. We watched every day. Some for 40-50 years. My 89 yr old mom can’t watch her soaps after all these years. Can you, ABC, have ant idea how many elderly people they hurt. Some, it was what they waited for every day. I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. I hope they can sleep at night knowing what they have done. That is if they have a heart.
