CBS DOMINATES; YEAR-TO-YEAR LOSSES THE VISIBLE OBSERVATION
Excluding another Fox victory among adults 18-34, CBS was the dominant network with a first-place finish in total viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen. The Eye net was on par from one year earlier, but fading American Idol continues to result in overall losses for Fox. Elsewhere, erosion was the visible observation, with last-place The CW the biggest loser at losses of 25 to 37 percent in the four surveyed categories.
In season-finale news, long-running reality staples The Biggest Loser on NBC and The Amazing Race on CBS were down, but not out by any means. A two-hour edition of Emmy favorite The Amazing Race concluded with 9.40 million viewers (#22 overall) and a 2.7 rating/7 share among adults 18-49 (tied for No. 16) in the Sunday 8-10 p.m. block. And a one-hour edition of The Biggest Loser (which should remain that length next season) concluded with 7.20 million viewers (#33) and a 2.2/ 7 in the demo (#31t) at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
In series-finale news, Escape Routes on NBC, which was nothing more than a product endorsement for the Ford Escape, was off the charts at 1.20 million viewers (#91) and a 0.3/ 1 among adults 18-49 (#93t) in the Saturday 8 p.m. hour.
New entries in midseason remained a bust, meanwhile, with the most-watched, Sunday 10 p.m. crime solver NYC 22 on CBS, at 6.87 million viewers (#36) out of The Amazing Race. Results among adults 18-49 dipped to a 1.2/ 3 (tied for No. 69). Even America’s sweetheart, Betty White, has not had much luck with her hidden camera Off Their Rockers on NBC, while Touch with Kiefer Sutherland on Fox is no 24.
