Daytime Emmy Awards Breaks the Record Books on HLN

June 25, 2012 by marcberman in Highlights with 18 Comments

2-MILLION VIEWERS FOR THE FIVE AIRINGS

It is a fraction of the prior deliveries on CBS, which most recently averaged 5.49 million viewers on June 19, 2011. But based on fast national data, The 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in the Saturday 8-10 p.m. ET block on HLN scored 912,000 viewers — the most-watched, regularly scheduled non-news broadcast in the cable news net’s history. The premiere telecast, additionally, lifted HLN to its second most-watched Saturday ever.

The debut Daytime Emmys broadcast plus four encore airings (Saturday, June 23: 10 p.m. ET; Sunday, June 24: 8 p.m. ET, 10 p.m. ET and 12 a.m. ET) totaled 2-million total viewers and 677,000 adults 25-54.

Fantastic for HLN! So happy that it brought HLN viewers and proved we are still interested in soaps/

So glad to hear! Soap fans everywhere thank HLN for airing the broadcast and making sure that we can share in the excitement with our daytime “families”! Congratulations HLN!!!!

Thank you, Marc. We can always count on you to let us know what’s happening. I’m so happy for HLN since they had the good sense to televise the Emmys this year. Soap fans were able to view the festivities plus I’m sure that HLN gained many new viewers. This proves that soaps and their fans are still very relevant.

Well done HLN for capitalizing on an awards show for shows, that clearly are relevant and in demand. Given that it was a Saturday evening during the summer these are excellent ratings in my opinion. Thank you Marc for taking the time to gather these preliminary ratings data for us.

Thank you Marc for the very good news on the ratings of HLN Without a doubt if all the remaining Soaps would have put a message on the screen saying the Emmys would have been on HLN it would have surpassed CBS ratings….. Thank you HLN once again for all you have done for the Soap Genre and congratulations on being the second most watched Saturday now that is an achievement….

Thank you HLN for broadcasting the awards live. I live on the West Coast and hate that these are usually live on the East and not in the West. I really enjoyed the awards. So happy GH got as many as they did. Hopefully will make it harder to cancel GH.

This is great news for HLN, the Daytime Emmys and soap fans! HLN did a great job considering they had so little time to pull something together. Their interaction with soap fans with questions and games using social media was great. HLN did more to promote Daytime in a few weeks than the networks have done in years. Thank you Marc for this wonderful ratings news!

Thank you HLN for giving the Daytime audience a chance to see the Emmy Awards and doing so in a respectable manner. We’ve taken many knocks in the past few years but with your support, perhaps we’re regaining our footing. Congratulations on the ratings and thank you again.

Since it set a network record this is definitely a positive. The awards show has had trouble maintaining consistent airtime but its still really valuable.

I think this award show loses all of steam and viewership if the soaps completely go away because the soaps are the only reason why people pay attention to this award show so hopefully the networks keep the remaining four soaps around as long as they can.

Yay it is just like the stars said. It is the fans, we love them and think of them as part of our family. I miss my shows and frankly my life has felt weird since the dreaded cancellations. Personally I don’t think ABC cares. We shall see. In the meantime I greatly and deeply appreciate HLN for giving us our beloved broadcast that we have watched for years.

Thank you Marc for a great article….Thank You HLN for giving the soap fans the Emmy’s . I only wish that ABC will wake up and realize that the soap are still in great demand or another network will see this and pick up AMC and OLTL!!!! Miss OLTL very much!

Thank you HLN for giving us the Emmy’s. There is such a fan base for day time stories just wish and pray that ABC/D would open there eyes and ears and know that the fans are not going away.

Bravo HLN!!! I knew it would bring your network big numbers. Thank you Marc Berman, for keeping us posted on the ratings for all our beloved Soaps, I knew I could count on you for the Daytime Emmy ratings, as well. You rock, Marc!!!

Yay for HLN and yay for daytime fans! This was such an amazing feat to pull off in the short time they had to plan it. I’m going to be sure to let HLN know I will watch next year as well. Thanks, Marc for another great job of reporting!

This is great for HLN! Now we have a year to prepare and advertise for next year’s show, right?!? (hint)

  18. Troy TurnerJul 2, 2012 at 3:15 am

Thanks Marc for keeping us informed-and a big THANK YOU to HLN for sticking by us when noone else would. AMC and OLTL may be out of HLN’s programming wishes, but hopefully someone at Turner has taken notice that daytime drama still has a valued place in today’s landscape.
