ONE LIFE TO LIVE IN THE YEAR-AGO TIME PERIOD WAS CONSIDERABLY STRONGER
Two days of metered market data from Nielsen does not a hit or miss make. But with weaker lead-in support, Good Afternoon America on ABC dipped to a 1.6 rating/5 share in the overnights in day two (Tuesday, July 10), which was six percent below the lead-in average (1.7/ 5) and 20 percent below former time period occupant One Life to Live in July 2011 (2.0/ 6). Monday’s opener was a 1.7/ 5 (out of a 1.8/ 5).
Good Afternoon America also declined by margins of 33 percent to 50 percent from the year-ago time period average in the three key female demos as follows:
Women 18-49:
July 2011: 1.0/ 7, Lead-in: 0.5/ 4, Good Afternoon America: 0.5/ 4
Women 25-54:
July 2011: 1.2/ 8, Lead-in: 0.8/ 5, Good Afternoon America: 0.7/ 5
Women 18-34:
July 2011: 0.6/ 4, Lead-in: 0.3/ 2, Good Afternoon America: 0.4/ 2
Stay tuned for more overnight results this week.

GREAT NEWS Marc !!!! Down Down Down ABC/Disney !!!!
SpinsVixenellaJul 11, 2012 at 3:02 pm
Just couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch than those greedy ABC idiots. Good enough for ‘em. I hope Katie is next. ABC needs to do right by AMC, OLTL, & GH! Obviously CHEAPER to produce does not neccessarily yield more ad revenue when your key demo just walks away as is the case here.

Keep on Dropping dropping dropping.
lol

ABC is paying the price for canceling our soaps! Let’s see Good Afternoon America and The Chew continue to fail miserably. Not even guest appearances by our favorite ABC soap stares can save them. Soap fans remain vigilant and boycott Disney/ABC!!!!!!
jokerkakesJul 11, 2012 at 3:57 pm
Good Afternoon America, will keep dropping. When will ABC, get a brain, and realize that we do not want or need another ****** talk show. We want our Soaps back!!!!!!!!!
SeahawkmomJul 11, 2012 at 4:10 pm
Thank you Marc love to see the low ratings just keep them coming. Will keep boycotting untill are soaps are given back to us.
AnneJul 11, 2012 at 4:33 pm
ABC/D still hasn’t learned that nothing will replace AMC and OLTL. Both programs had a strong, loyal fanbase, which was growing into another generation. Nothng they try to replace them with will succeed. My household will still continue to boycott ABC/D. Bring back our Soaps!
kerryJul 11, 2012 at 4:54 pm
thank you marc for publishing the these results. happy to see that gaa is trending like the revultion did downward hope it will continue then just maybe the suits at abc will realize we want scripted programs and not reality,

I generally hate to see people fail but I just get all gooey inside when I hear of another ABC/Disney bomb! Freaking LOVE IT! Oh, bring back OLTL…..
OwensboroSteveJul 11, 2012 at 4:58 pm
It is no surprise that ABC’s cheaply produced lifestyle shows are not hits with the fans. Cheap is as cheap does and they are getting what they paid for–nothing!
Act to keep General Hospital on the air. Boycott GAA and The Chew and let ABC know what you think, soap fans!
slj730Jul 11, 2012 at 5:06 pm
I am not at all surprised to see Day #2 of this show proving a decline. ABC I hope will SOON realize that “love in the afternoon” is preferred and in demand, as opposed to an over-saturation of talkers.
vhancockJul 11, 2012 at 5:56 pm
they’ll never get the ratings they were getting with one life
carolcJul 11, 2012 at 6:01 pm
Thanks, Marc, for always keeping up informed about the ratings. It looks like even the “curiosity” factor didn’t help the launch of this show. My worry is that ABC will somehow spin the ratings in September and find a way to keep it on the air – possibly replacing General Hospital with this show. They have made so many mistakes – cancelling All My Children and One Life To Live – so nothing would surprise me.
mary22Jul 11, 2012 at 6:07 pm
Thanks Marc! When is ABC/Disney going to wake up and realize that they made such a huge mistake! Will not watch any of the replacement shows ever! Want my soaps back! I miss OLTL everyday!
camilleJul 11, 2012 at 6:15 pm
Thank you Marc for this article and making me do my Happy Dance On Day 2 of ABC’s latest ratings failure. GAA will never surpass OLTL ratings, nor will it ever become a success with those who do watch TV in the afternoon. ABC/D you are failing miserably all across the board with your new programming for Daytime. Greed has overcome your integrity and loyalty to your viewers and Karma is taking over.
okicarolJul 11, 2012 at 6:25 pm
Thank you Marc
I can not feel sorry for ABC/D — I have stopped watching ABC except for General Hospital and Castle –That is a far cry from what I use to watch on ABC —- One day someone (not me) will turn on ABC just to find that Good Morning America is the only show ABC has on – so sad
PaulaKateJul 11, 2012 at 6:56 pm
ABC we want our soaps, One Life To Live and General Hospital in the afternoon……that’s it!
dragonflyJul 11, 2012 at 8:03 pm
Thank you Marc for the continuing updates as GMAA goes down, down and down again!!! I continue my boycott!!!
susanmzJul 11, 2012 at 9:53 pm
ROTFLMAO
LindseyHJul 12, 2012 at 12:14 am
Wow … 33-50 percent decline from last year in the three target groups. Sounds like time to bring back One Life to Live!
SoapFan00053Jul 12, 2012 at 1:03 am
i quit watching the insider due to lara spencer turning it into the “what’s lara wearing” & buy it for less half hr…for some reason i find the same thing happening with good afternoon america & it’s lack of content…glad to see it’s already tanking…wonder why the chew has lasted this long??
ShannonBJul 12, 2012 at 1:59 am
Ha ha ha ha ha! The millions of fans still in mourning over OLTL & AMC are in no way surprised at these results. It is starting bad and getting worse. Wake up ABC – no more talk/food/lifestyle/doctor/self-help/fashion shows that tell us everything we’re doing wrong. No Pine Valley & Llanview families, no ABC (except GH of course!)
LuvbooksJul 12, 2012 at 4:34 am
You would think that ABC/D would get a clue already. No one wants these talk shows on. We want our soaps back!! I haven’t been watching and I won’t watch. There are way too many of these types of shows on already and I’m just done with it. Thanks for the info Marc!! Makes me feel good that GAA is not doing good at all.
Troy TurnerJul 12, 2012 at 5:36 am
This isn’t a surprise to anyone following along, but drops of 20/33/50 should send ABC serious signals, even if it is just day 2 of a 9 week gig. But as I said yesterday, the key numbers will be the numbers for GH coming out of GAA. Thanks Marc, as always, for keeping us informed
BarbaraJul 12, 2012 at 6:43 am
Not surprising. I only watch GH during the day. Bring back OLTL.
rick_rainbowJul 12, 2012 at 3:00 pm
You keep losing your demographic audience. Why? You are not following what the viewers want ABC/Disney. Your advertisers will soon learn that since the ratings are not where they should be they will walk as well. So, get with what the viewers want ALL MY CHILDREN, ONE LIFE TO LIVE and GENERAL HOSPITAL. Easy formula and you shall get the audience and demographics you need back. Start listening and stop being greedy.
