TNT Orders Dwayne Johnson’s The Hero

Based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings from Nielsen for the week of August 20, The View on ABC slipped to second behind The Chew, also on the alphabet net, among women 18-34. And the gap between the four occupants was considerably narrower. But keep in mind that both The View and The Talk on CBS were in repeats. As always, The Chew and recent short-term entry Good Afternoon America on ABC continue to underperform year-ago occupants All My Children and One Life to Live by double-digit percentages.

For a closer look, here are the results for each show (with change versus the comparable year-ago time period in parentheses).

-Total Viewers:

The View (ABC): 2.14 million (-14), The Chew (ABC): 1.95 (-22 from All My Children), The Talk (CBS): 1.85 (+ 6), Good Afternoon America (ABC): 1.64 (-40 from One Life to Live)

-Women 25-54:
The View (ABC): 459,000 (-25), The Chew (ABC): 486,000 (-33), Good Afternoon America (ABC): 440,000 (-48), The Talk (CBS): 433,000 (- 4)

-Women 18-49:
The View (ABC): 390,000 (-19), The Chew (ABC): 355,000 (-40), The Talk (CBS): 316,000 (-16), Good Afternoon America (ABC): 315,000 (-56)

-Women 18-34:

The Chew (ABC): 154,000 (-29), The View (ABC): 139,000 (-12), Good Afternoon America (ABC): 133,000 (-41), The Talk (CBS): 91,000 (-13)

Hmm. Concerned that The Spew would overtake The View………

  • Jason

Either way, The Spew needs to go.

Marc, I’m glad you clarified that the View and Talk were repeats. I was worried for a nano second. The downward trend for these shows continues and will do so until some major changes are made in Daytime programming. The soaps need to be reinstated on another Network – not ABC. I’m looking forward to that day.

I would like to see the dynamic duo of laryngitis and karma, as comedy relief, on the roster of every ABC gabfest grotesquerie. Not that I will be watching but it would bring comfort to hear that THE VIEW, THE CHEW and KATIE “COO” have spewed their last bit of gossip and goo!

  • moshane58

Bad thing is The View is in reruns and the Chew is now to.So I would be excited but can’t with all them reruns. Now gotta wait for two more weeks to see The Chew total for it won’t be new until next week.wish it would stay down but afraid it will go back up when it starts again next week.

I just want to know why anyone watches these crappy talk shows with many more being added to the network lineups. When Katie premiers next week maybe someone at ABC will notice no one like their daytime choices except General Hospital which is beyond doubt better than anything else on the worst network in history and that is ABC. They have permanently lost me until they address what they have done to daytime and primetime also. Their idiotic reality shows make humanity look like the worst bunch of dummies imaginable. I want good programming not cheap crap. No talk, news or reality for me. Give me my scripted dramas any day.

ABC Daytime “talker” replacements continue to underperform compared to All My Children and One Life to Live. Love in the Afternoon worked. These shows simply do not draw in the fanfare. The ratings continue to prove so. Thank you Marc.

While I won’t argue the repeat effect-the raw numbers HAVE to have ABC concerned, whether they admit it or not. Even at The View’s strongest point since January, that’s well over a million viewers lost-and that’s due to soap backlash, whether people realize it or not. As for The Chew/GAA-nothing I could say now is much different than what I’ve said before. As always, thanks for giving it to us straight
