Michael Clarke Duncan, the Academy Award nominated star of theatrical The Green Mile and recent co-star of Fox drama The Finder passed away this morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles where he was being treated for a heart attack. He was 54.

Born on December 10, 1957 in Chicago, commanding Duncan, who stood 6-foot-5, supported himself as a bodyguard in the mid-to-late 1990s while building a resume with commercial spots and guest starring roles in TV series like Renegade, Married With Children, The Jamie Foxx Show, The Wayans Bros. and Living Single. A small role in theatrical Armageddon in 1998 opposite Bruce Willis led to his breakout role in The Green Mile in 1999. He also appeared with Willis in Breakfast of Champions (1999), The Whole Nine Yards (2000) and Sin City (2005). Other roles on the big screen included Planet of the Apes (2001), The Scorpion King (2002) and animated Kung Fu Panda in 2008.

Duncan was hospitalized on July 13 after suffering cardiac arrest and being resuscitated by his girlfriend, former Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth. “Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time,” said her publicist in a statement. “Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date.”
