It was night of split leadership on this low-rated Labor Day weekend Sunday, with CBS the most-watched and Fox No. 1 among key adults 18-49, according to the fast affiliate results from Nielsen. With three weeks to go before the official start of the new TV season, ABC previewed its five new fall series (sitcoms The Neighbors and Malibu Country; dramas Nashville, The Last Resort and 666 Park Avenue) in a 7 p.m. special hosted by the personalities on The Chew and it flopped with just 2.37 million viewers (#3) and a last-place 0.4 rating/2 share among adults 18-49. ABC populated the 9-11 p.m. block with another special, TV’s Most Dynamic Duos: Presented By the Paley Center for Media, and it was equally lackluster.

Elsewhere, Big Brother on CBS was below average at 8 p.m., and the remainder of the evening was predominantly repeats. For a complete listing by network and by individual program for Sunday, September 2, click on the following:

Maybe that can show them that we don’t want their talk shows and put back the shows we love back on.

  • tinafg

BIIIIIIIIIIG SMILE!!!!!!!!!!! The Spew came in last!!!!! ABC/Disney…..release our soaps!!!!!!!! You will have NOOOO success until you release our soaps!

  • Sweetmama

Whats this good news the spew flop he he he !!

  • camille

ABC is getting more laughable every day! What were they thinking when they decidided to us the Chew as the host to showcase their New Shows. If people don’t want to watch it in the daytime , surely, no one will be watching it in Prime Time They blew it and also lost an audience to some new shows…. shaking my head wondering when they will admit to the biggest mistake of their lives by cancelling the two beloved soaps.

  • carolc

It looks like ABC’s pathetic attempt to promote the Chew failed big time. Not only did very few people watch this show but, I’m sure, the ones who did, and had never watched the Chew, never will now.

  • Marji

This proves that not only is this type of programming undesirable in daytime, it is also undesirable in prime time. Perhaps ABC should have had the actors from GH and their prime time counterparts present the upcoming season.

  • Debbie Joyce

Another attempt to shove The Chew done viewers throats has failed. Instead they should have used actors from their highest rated shows that actually draw in an audience.

  • Troy Turner

This one is not a shocker-having seen the previews during GH, I found it puzzling that they would have The Chew cast out of their element conducting interviews. This is a job better suited for Barbara Walters, et al. I stand by my assertion that ABC set this show up for failure, by burying it on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend

  • szlongball

So glad this tanked. Really want to waatch Reba’s new show, to bad it is on ABC. Bring back the soaps!!!!

  • SpinsVixenella

I can barely stop laughing. Besides having FEWER viewers in PRIMETIME than AMC, OLTL, or GH got on an average DAY, more than 600,000 viewers TUNED OUT between the first & second half-hours last nite! Next year ABC should let some AMC, OLTL, & GH stars introduce their Primetime line-up.

    • diane_o

I’m right there laughing along with you! If any of the former AMC or OLTL stars would have been willing to do the show last night I would have tuned in and watched the entire show. As it was, once I heard the cast of the chew would be hosting, I knew I wouldn’t be watching…and I didn’t. Maybe next year ABC will, in their infinite wisdom, have Katie host the whole thing alone Bwahhahaha ratings BONANZA!

  • krogers

LMAO! The Chew came in last in primtime. Can’t cut it anytime of day.

  • tkmckenzie

ABC-Disney maybe now they get that we don’t want no criminal in daytime like the chef of the spew. We want the beautiful Susan Lucci who went out her way to feed the children in Africa.

  • LindseyH

Wow .. I’m so surprised :) I will continue to boycott ABC except for the General Hospital hour.

  • Marcia

No surprise here! You get as good as you give!

  • okicarol

The only thing I watch on ABC is General Hospital. — ABC cancelled my soaps and I cancelled them —
