The Chew on ABC continues to show some promise, but the news remains grim for more recent talk show entry The Revolution. Based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings for the week of Feb. 20, The Chew rose to a five-week high in total viewers (2.44 million: down three percent from All My Children one year earlier), while actually surpassing the now defunct daytime serial by 25 percent among women 18-34 (0.5/ 3 vs. 0.4/ 3). But week five of The Revolution scored a subpar 1.54 million viewers (down 39 percent from One Life to Live), with erosion from fictional the Lord family of as much as 50 percent in both women 18-49 and women 18-34.

Take a look at The Chew and The Revolution versus All My Children and One Life to Live:

All My Children – Week of 2/21/11
Viewers: 2.51 million, Women 25-54: 1.2/ 7, Women 18-49: 0.9/ 6, Women 18-34: 0.4/ 3

The Chew – Week of 2/20/12
Viewers: 2.44 million, Women 25-54: 1.1/ 6, Women 18-49: 0.8/ 5, Women 18-34: 0.5/ 3

Percent Change – The Chew vs. All My Children

Viewers: – 3, Women 25-54: – 8, Women 18-49: -11, Women 18-34: +25

One Life to Live – Week of 2/21/11
Viewers: 2.53 million, Women 25-54: 1.3/ 8, Women 18-49: 1.0/ 6, Women 18-34: 0.6/ 4

The Revolution – Week of 2/20/12
Viewers: 1.54 million, Women 25-54: 0.7/ 4, Women 18-49: 0.5/ 3, Women 18-34: 0.3/ 2

Percent Change – The Revolution vs. One Life to Live

Viewers: -39, Women 25-54: -26, Women 18-49: -50, Women 18-34: -50

The View on ABC stood well above the competitors, as always, with a 13-week high in both total viewers (3.85 million) and women 25-54 (1.6/10). The Talk on CBS, meanwhile, finished third of the three daytime network talkers in total viewers (2.20 million) and women 25-54 (1.0/ 6), while tying The Chew for a distant second among women 18-49 and women 18-34. Given the sad state of The Revolution, ABC would be wise to leave sole serial survivor General Hospital alone.

ABC has no problem cancelling prime time shows with such low ratings. When will they realize that no matter how much they promote this show or who they have guest star that no one cares? Will Anne Sweeney keep her word to cancel the show with the least viewers? Isn’t it about time Disney sells ABC before they destroy it even further?

  • susanmz

You are so right. They should leave GH alone and bring back OLTL while they are at it. Katie Couric will not pull in a decent audience.

    • Anne

I agree. Disney stock is down. ABC viewership is down. Iger wants a raise and an assistant. Anne Sweeney sits in a ivory tower with ear plugs in, so she cannot hear the actual daytime viewers. Bean counters count beans, they do not draw in audiences. Leave GENERAL HOSPITAL on, and bring ONE LIFE TO LIVE back! ABC is losing.

  • carolc

When will Disney/ABC admit their mistake? The Revolution is a total waste of air time and the advertisers should be aware that their money is going down the toilet. If Disney is to retain any credibility, they will cancel this show and keep General Hospital. We are going to keep Anne Sweeney accountable for her words.

  • Casey Costello

I have a feeling ABC/Disney is going to be genuinely surprised about this. We all knew they expected some loss in viewers from “One Life to Live,” but this is not “some loss” in viewers–this is a mass exodus! ABC is losing a huge percentage of its audience and, even if they have little respect for this daytime audience, they do in fact need them to watch their programs in order to turn a profit. “The Revolution” may be 30% less to produce, but if it’s losing 50% of the viewers OLTL had in its key demographic, ABC will be losing a lot of money on it–and that’s not something they’ll be able to laugh off for long.

ABC/Disney is now discovering that the only thing worse than a lover scorned is a soap fan scorned. Let’s hope this time the message sticks.

Thank you Marc for keeping us updated !! Ms. Sweeney needs to keep her word & keep the show on with more eyeballs, which is General Hospital, the ratings for the Revolution terrible & they have to pay people to see that show !! Terrible, Just Terrible !! ABC/Disney has destroyed daytime television !! I have boycotted ABC/Disney from my home, Only show I watch is General Hospital, thats it !! I was a loyal ABC viewer for over 30 years but now I’m done !!

“Given the sad state of The Revolution, ABC would be wise to leave sole serial survivor General Hospital alone. ”

That, my friends, is an understatement! However, it does not go far enough…bring back AMC and OLTL!

  • cottle

I don’t believe the Chew ratings. On the east coast chew is on at 1 pm but I know in other parts of the US it is on at noon. That is the only way I would believe that the Chew ratings aren’t doctored. As for the Revolution what did they expect, duh!!!!. I miss OLTL so much!!!! I see there is a new show with Ashley Judd coming on middle of March but since it is on ABC I won’t watch it. I don’t watch anything except GH not even the local news. And Anne Sweeney says she listens to the viewers. What a crock of BS? She has been in that position much too long. Time for some spring cleaning!!!!

  • mary22

I just can’t believe that ABC has left these show on the air with there rating being so bad. They should clean up there act and bring back AMC and OLTL ASAP. They need to get there ratings back up and the only way that is going to happen is to bring the soaps back. What ever show they put in those time slots is doomed to fail. Because the soap fans will not watch it. Anne Sweeney says she is listening to the viewers all I got to say is WHEN? She didn’t listen to the viewers she did what she wanted to and didn’t even consider the viewers or what the outcome of cancelling two beloved shows would do.

  • club425

The numbers don’t lie ABC/Disney….Ms. Sweeney how does it feel to be in touch with your viewers… 1 Million viewers sure does equal a lot of lost revenue for your smaller affiliates….but ABC doesn’t care about them, and most would take the soaps back in a New York Minute! Thank you Marc Berman and Media INsights for continuing to be on top of the EPIC FAIL that ABC/Disney has with it’s venture to the revolution. The only reason why the chew is even close to AMC is because Brian Frons DESTROYED AMC with his absurd micromanaging, and awful writing (just like he did to GH) while OLTL was able to flourish under the amazing writing of Ron Carlivati. Let’s hope that Ron can bring GH back to it’s glory before GH gets their “pink slip”.

  • norasusan

Ms. Sweeney and Mr. Iger, It’s never too late to admit you made a mistake when you put your faith in Brian Frons who, from the start, was determined to bring down the soaps. Your ratings will continue to tank until you rectify this blunder and bring back OLTL.

  • KristenH

ABC better think twice, if they want to cancel GH. Katie Couric will never get the same ratings as GH did, a year ago from last September. So you’re right Marc. They better leave GH alone and cancel the Revolution by May. They could also cancel The Chew too.

  • novelgirl22

There are not words to discribe what a mess ABC has made of Daytime. Is money that important to you. What about your loyal fans? You can’t make people watch what they don’t want to. Admit your wrongs and rectify the situation….

  • divastyle

OK ABC, can you FINALLY hear your viewers now? We are tuning out in record numbers because this is NOT the kind of programming that we want to see! It is time to bite the bullet and admit that you made a HUGE mistake and apologize not only for cancelling our soaps but for saying that we could be “Trained like dogs” to watch this mindless drivel! Bring back AMC & OLTL, Katie has already failed on CBS & NBC, what makes you think she will do any better on ABC? I can assure you if she replaces GH, I will NOT be watching!!

  • OwensboroSteve

Ratings stalled for The Revolution? No wonder this insipid show is tanking. The content and the hosts make this program the worst talk show on television. ABC executives, please admit you made a colossal error and remove this terrible excuse for an informative lifestyle show off the air once and for all. Furthemore, do not compound your error by even thinking of canceling General Hospital. You have already highly angered viewers of daytime drama and will only engender further ill will toward your network by showing further contempt for your viewers if you deny us the ability to watch GH!

  • Jason

This should be the theme song for these two shows.

    “Let’em fail, Let’em fail, Let’em fail!” lol

  • TikiBarb

When is ABC/DISNEY going to admit their monumental MISTAKE ??? If they’re trying to prove a point they have…..They’re stubborn morons !!!! Any other show with such dismal ratings would have been cancelled. ABC/DISNEY is an embarassment to daytime television(with the exception of General Hospital) and is also an embarassment in prime time with it’s “cheap” low budget reality garbage. Give the rights back to Agnes Nixon or produce OLTL and AMC . Thank you Marc Berman for keeping us up dated and look forward to your newsletter everyday in my e-mail.

  • ShannonB

I cannot imagine who would want to watch the redundant, non-essential drivel being passed off by ABC either on The Chew or the Revolution…I find both shows boring and insulting. My days have not felt right since OLTL was cancelled; I miss it every day still. I just hope & pray that someone, somewhere at ABC realizes that a huge mistake was been made in the cancellation decisions and realizes that even bigger one would be to cancel General Hospital

  • auntjane

ABC/D has made such a horrible mistake canceling OLTL and AMC. I don’t care what ABC puts in their time slots, I will not watch it. To think they have to pay people to be in the audience of the Revolution, and the show it replaced had almost 4,000,000 viewers every day it’s last week. Really dumb move, ABC.

  • emtk

ABC/D is sabotaging their own network. It is just bad business to create so much animosity! The ratings are horrible in their daytime lineup since the cancellations. Bring back One Life To Live, make television history and watch the ratings soar higher than they even were before! Remember the 4 million viewers on the last week.

  • Skyzalex

At what point will the stockholders, executives, and sponsors start to question those in charge of this disaster? I believe ABC/Disney thought the Soap fans would go away, along with our boycotting, but hopefully before they go down to a point of no return, they bring back our Soaps!!

  • a123890

It is no surprise the show is failing we want our soaps back i am 37 and love scripted drama i hate all talk shows/reality.ABC should be ashamed.I go to work and come home and my DVR does not have my shows on makes very sad.I boycott everything on ABC but GH.That will never change i have had many people try to talk me into watching once upon a time no way!!!!!.I am true to my word.Linde B

  • piazzagirl

Yes ABC would be wise to keep GH on but ABC has not made any wise decisions lately. I am hoping these dismal ratings and the boycott will wisen ABC up a little but I have very little faith in them.

  • http://facebook Tanya Smith

Thanks for confirming what we all knew, it;s nice seeing it in writing though. Now to hoping those worthless executives actually read this. I guess they have given up on training us to watch their stupid replacement shows….. Give us back OLTL!!!

  • Troy Turner

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Marc-I agree with everyone here…

  • Edna Barefoot

ABC may not admit it but we know THEY made a mistake. I’m sorry for the stars of the revolution. ABC is to blame. If they had not pi$$ed off 3,000,000+ viewers things would be different. All they have to do is bring back OLTL & AMC & we will return. Til then it is BOYCOTT of abc & their advertisers.

  • SSW71

ABC/D how is it going with “TRAINING” the viewers? I say by the look of the rating your “TRAINING” session is NOT going to Well! We have told ABC/D , Sweeney and Iger that we the soap fans will NOT watch this crapfest! We are SOAP FANS and we don’t TRAIN to well! Do the right thing and cancel those “LIFESTYLE” shows you claim US viewers wanted! Sweeney when was the last time you ACTUALLY listen to ANYONE ? LOL…. maybe we should copy these ratings and send them to you then maybe just maybe then you would listen! WE WANT OUR SOAPS BACK ….. Thank again Marc……
