CBS Season Finale Dates

As a disclaimer, Daylight Savings Time kicked-in this week (which is never beneficial to the ratings) and The Talk on CBS was only a three-day (Monday to Wednesday) average due to pre-emptions on Thursday and Friday for the ongoing NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Excluding The View (which averaged 3.43 million viewers),, ABC’s troubles worsened in daytime talk with The Revolution sinking to another series low and The Chew off by noticeable percentages from year-ago occupant All My Children. Based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings from Nielsen for the week of March 12, ailing The Revolution is now down to 1.33 million viewers (off 45 percent from One Live to Live one year earlier), with key female erosion as high as 50 percent among women 25-54. The Chew also lost steam, with 2.14 million viewers down 10 percent from All My Children. Female demo losses for The Chew were as high as 25 percent among women 18-49.

Here is The Chew and The Revolution versus All My Children and One Life to Live:

All My Children – Week of 3/14/11
Viewers: 2.38 million, Women 25-54: 1.1 rating/ 7 share, Women 18-49: 0.8/ 6, Women 18-34: 0.5/ 3

The Chew – Week of 3/12/12
Viewers: 2.14 million, Women 25-54: 0.9/ 6, Women 18-49: 0.6/ 4, Women 18-34: 0.4/ 3

Percent Change – The Chew vs. All My Children

Viewers: -10, Women 25-54: -18, Women 18-49: -25, Women 18-34: -20

One Life to Live – Week of 3/14/11
Viewers: 2.43 million, Women 25-54: 1.2/ 8, Women 18-49: 0.9/ 6, Women 18-34: 0.5/ 4

The Revolution – Week of 3/12/12
Viewers: 1.33 million, Women 25-54: 0.6/ 4, Women 18-49: 0.5/ 3, Women 18-34: 0.3/ 2

Percent Change – The Revolution vs. One Life to Live

Viewers: -45, Women 25-54: -50, Women 18-49: -44, Women 18-34: -40

On CBS, sophomore The Talk was below average with 1.90 million viewers (- 4 percent from one year earlier), a 0.8/ 6 in women 25-54 (-11 percent), a 0.6/ 4 in women 18-49 (-25) and a 0.3/ 2 in women 18-34 (-50).

Well, I think it is time for ABCD to pack up the Revolution and send it to the archives. It has been on 2 months and is not gaining any ground.

The Chew, although cheaper is not performing as high as AMC did. Although, I am sure this will stay.

It is time for ABCD to cut their losses and take they lost “THE REVOLUTION” and put a winner in its place………

  • Debbie Joyce

NO surprise that The Revolution continues to be an embarassing show for ABC. The regular viewers that time slot have moved on to other shows and different networks. ABC’s only hope of retaining any viewers in the afternoon is keeping General Hospital on the air.

  • Jason

Well, well, well. Looks like ABC’s new programs are failing fast again. Keep on failing you two talk show, so we can show ABC what people want and not what they think they want.

  • MaryAnne

You made my DAY !!! ABC/Disney are you listening YET ???? You made a BIG MISTAKE canceling AMC & OLTL, Us daytime drama fans will not watch your replacement shows, EVER !!! Only time I have ABC on my TV is when GH is on 3-4 pm thats it !! CBS & NBC & other cable channels has my viewership, You have lost my 30 yrs of viewership when you canceled AMC & OLTL !!

  • sjmarcipan

Not in the least surprised about the Revolution but I am surprised that the Chew is even getting ratings. Every time I see the beginning of a commercial for that show I just get pissed off at ABC/Disney all over again….I’m really hoping against all hopes that these idiot network execs keep GH on otherwise I won’t watch and Katie might have to find another new home.

  • Edna Barefoot

If ABCD had left OLTL & AMC its ratings would not be so low as it is with The Chew & The Revolution. We, the fans DO know what we want. Cut your losses & put OLTL & AMC back & keep GH. Katie would do well after GH. Have a heart & give your viewers what they want.

  • michelec8916

ABC/Disney made a HUGE mistake by cancelling AMC and OLTL. With the Revolution at 1.33 million, how low do they have to go before getting cancelled? ABC should release the rights to AMC and OLTL, and cancel the Revolution, and put GH in it’s timeslot.

  • primetimeblabber

ABC says they can train the soap fans into watching these crappy shows…..seems they can’t train very well….down with The Spew and The Reekolution!! ABC is being managed by brainless people….we fans want scripted shows….not reality…..shows like these is why ratings are going down….and soon ABC will be down….down in the dumps…..looks like ABC needs to ask CBS for some paper to clean up their crap!!

  • cottle

I don’t understand why anybody watches these stupid shows. I would rather turn off the television then listen to dribble. There has to be a better way to track viewers than Nielsen. How could 1.3 million watch the Revolution? HOW LOW CAN THE RATINGS GO?

    • primetimeblabber

I wonder why 1.3 million viewers watch this crap too!! I guess we know how many stupid people like stupid shows!!

  • FloDiBona

It will be quite interesting to see if Disney/ABC foolishly sticks to its strategic plan for daytime programming. The abysmal performance of the Revoltion clearly demonstrates that Disney/ABC do NOT know what viewers want. Right now, this is better than ANY soap opera! If Disney/ABC does not cancel the Revoltion and move General Hospital to its time slot as a lead in for Katie Couric, I for one will be donning my mumu and popping some bonbons watching the mushroom cloud when the General Hospital cancellation announcement is made. Meanwhile, we will continue to fight and we will continue working to increase General Hospital viewership. If Disney/ABC chooses to cancel another top rated show, it will make it that more attractive for someone else to produce.

  • carolc

The longer Disney/ABC waits to make their cancellation announcement, the worse it looks for them. They’re trying to hold onto a failing program and the ratings are not going to get any better. It must be difficult for them to admit they made a mistake in cancelling both All My Children and One Life To Live but I’m not going to hold my breath to wait for that admission. They can, however, keep from doing any more damage than they’ve already done by keeping General Hospital on the air since it’s ratings are much higher than that of the Revolution.

  • divastyle

Well ABC, are you FINALLY listening to your viewers yet?? I think it should be pretty clear now that we DO NOT want this mindless drivel, we want our soaps back! It is still time to admit that cancelling AMC & OLTL was a HUGE mistake and bring them both back ASAP, do the right thing and/or at least leave GH Alone!!!!!!!!

  • iluvssw

Thank you Marc for always keeping us updated. As thrilled as I am to see the new crappy shows fail, I wish it didn’t have to come at the cost of loosing AMC & OLTL and I pray ABC/Disney isn’t foolish enough to cancel GH.

  • cbarbie

Did I read that right? The Revolting is down 45% from OLTL? If this was Prime Time they would have swept it to the door by now! I refuse to be trained! I will continue to show ABC what a#@es they are! They are losing fans – what are they thinking??? Recently banks have changed fees because of customer protests. Why isn’t any of this getting through to ABC? And, now they are getting into more prime time soaps. Dallas is returning and fans are excited! But, our wildly popular OLTL is being ignored. It has a loyal fan base most shows would kill for! Idiots!!!

  • norasusan

Marc, I have a question. Are the sponsors of The Revolution paying attention to the terrible ratings? If I were a sponsor, I’d pull my ads. If there are any sponsors reading this, tell ABC they’ve made a huge error. Either bring back One Life to Live or pull the ads asap. Also, anyone in power from ABC reading this…If you want to cut production costs of the soaps, why don’t you film them in a cheaper geographical area, such as Atlanta or Orlando? AMC is saving money by filming The Walking Dead in Atlanta. There really is no excuse for not bringing our soaps back.

    • marcberman

I think any sponsor should always be aware of who is…or who is not…watching the series they are sponsoring. Pulling the ads is not the option. But what is is failing to return as a sponsor at a later time.

  • susanmz

Thanks, Marc Berman, for keeping us updated with the ratings. The Revolution is pathetic. It needs to be put out of its misery. I like Chew ratings falling, too.

I only watch GH on ABC. All other shows have beenbycotted by moi.

  • tammy

I am SO GLAD to know that the chew and the revolution are failing! I wouldn’t watch another doctor, food, makeover or talk show even if you paid me!! Be smart and bring the Soap Operas AMC and OLTL back and keep GH! ABC/Disney you have lost my support! The only show I watch now is General Hospital. It’s sad because I used to love ABC/Disney.

  • Seahawkmom

Thank you Marc. How does ABC/D not see that the 2 replacement shows that they thought us soaps fans were going to just love and forget all about are soaps are a big flop. We want are soaps back AMC and OLTL. I have boycotted ABC/D for almost a year the only show I will watch is GH. ABC do the right thing and let us have are soaps as you can see we are not going any where and your station is going to continue to be at the bottom of the other networks.

  • soapaddict12

I think ABC/D should take note sooner than later that their daytime audience has tuned them out!!!!!!! I know the only thing I watch on ABC is GH nothing else is worth watching. Do they think people our recording the spew and revulsion to watch at a later time?…..I think NOT!!!!!!!! It may be cheaper to do reality but if you can get people to watch is it really cheaper?????

  • nmelman

This is just getting worse and worse. Why would ABC not know that they are putting major flops on the air instead of our shows that has immediate viewers. Their taste in programming is idiotic and so are they (ABC/Disney). We are not stupid, we do not want any more talk shows. They are all the same by the way. Stupid programming, stupid network. Get rid of the Revolution and keep GH. We are loving the new changes to the last remaining soap on ABC. You have people boycotting them throughout the country. GET A CLUE ABC.

  • Duncey

The Revolution is an absolute embarrassment and the longer they keep it on the more worse ABC looks. They really need to pull this show from the schedule within the next few weeks and move repeats of GH there.

The Chew is not doing as bad but its no AMC either.

ABC knows exactly what to do now and that’s put GH on at 2pm in front of Katie.

  • OwensboroSteve

ABC, what are you waiting for? I suppose you want The Revolution to have no viewers? Of course, because of your disastrous decision to cancel OLTL and AMC, it is certainly no surprise that your ratings are in the celllar. I would think you would want to stay with a winner and KEEP GENERAL HOSPITAL ON THE AIR. If you cancel GH, then say goodbye to the rest of your viewers. GH is already the only show I watch on your network, so I would hope you could FINALLY decide to please your fans instead of continuing to make them angrier by the day. NO GH, NO ABC for me!

  • Troy Turner

Marc, you know you’re preaching to the choir here. I think the numbers that will forecast GH’s future are how it’s performing after the R. Any word on those?

  • emtk

ABC/Disney continues to make horrible decisions. If they were smart, they would cancel these unnecessary talk shows, keep General Hospital, and find a way to make television history by bringing back One Life To Live. 4 million viewers were lost when One Life To Live was cancelled. Many of these viewers now boycott ABC/Disney. Hmmm, do you see a problem here?!

  • mary22

I can’t believe that ABC/Disney won’t just admit to making a huge mistake and axe The Revolution and do the right thing and bring back OLTL and once The Chews ratings start to fall bring back AMC. There is nothing wrong with making a mistake it just takes a big person to admit it. Can ABC/Disney do it? I hope so!

  • camille

Thank you Marc once again for an honest article. I also want to thank you for the updated ratings. Now I just want to ask…..or shall I say make a statement I think ABC has already left the building and are already hiding out in bomb shelters for they know they are going to be killed for their bad business decisions and that is the reason we don’t hear from them. THEY ALREADY KNOW THEY ARE WRONG and are waiting for the mushroom cloud to come….

  • callie

What did they expect? That it will just. All blow over.. It may in 5 years. Not anytime soon~~ Maybe they will think with their heads the next time they want to bulldoze over people who keep their network on the air..

  • Mindachsiefan

The Chew’s ratings are going down compared to AMC’s results last year results. Has this stupid talk show finally left a bad aftertaste with its audience? Let’s hope they wise up and leave it in droves! ABC should be programming quality scripted shows not this reality/talk drivel. Bring back All My Children and One Life to Live! Cancel these reality shows now!

  • KristenH

Marc, you rock. ABCD, you suck! You lied last week about GH’s fate and whatnot. Do yourself a favor, soap killers! Pull the plug on the Revolution and fire Batali from the Chew. Place Katie Couric at 2 PM and save GH–leave it alone at 2 PM. But you can right this wrong and fix this mess!

  • a123890

Linde BALLY here ABC I just want to say what terrible decisions you make.I really miss my One Life To Live And All My Children.I hate reality t.v.I am 37 years old and the only thing that i watch of yours now is General Hospital.I was loyal to you for years but you dont care about your viewers. If you cancel General Hospital then I am gone for good.CBS must love me now.I am and Young and the restless watcher and Bold and the beautiful. Also primetime CBS and NBC

  • Juliahunter716

It is painfully obvious to Soap fans and people who enjoy smart scripted television that these two shows will continue to fail to draw the viewers that All My Children and One Life to Live did. Shame on you ABC/Disney for trying to shove this cheep programming down our throats.

  • Casey Costello

One year ago last week, “ONE LIFE TO LIVE” had 2.43 million viewers. Last week, “The Revolution” had 1.33 million. You do the math. ONE MILLION, ONE-HUNDRED THOUSAND viewers cannot be wrong: “The Revolution” is GRADE A CRAP and “One Life to Live” should NEVER have been cancelled for its sake.

Let’s only hope ABC/Disney doesn’t cancel “General Hospital” for “The Revolution’s” sake too. How many quality, scripted dramas have to be sacrificed for the sake of Tim Gunn’s pearls of wisdom like “High heels make the leg look longer” and “color can really bring out an outfit”.

  • dzzdee

Keep Sinking you Sorry Ace (Chew and Revolting) talk show.. As Fan’s keep increasing by numbers we shall keep protesting and boycotting.. Soaps Are IN!!! and Cheap Shows are OUT!

  • rdgbig

ABC/D wake up. Cancel that piece of crap the Revolution from your program. Not only is there ratings horrible, it is destroying GH ratings as well because the Revolution is the lead show.

  • tinafg

Biiiiiiiig Smile!!!!! Thanks for the great news, Marc! “ABC’s troubles worsened in daytime talk with The Revolution sinking to another series low and The Chew off by noticeable percentages from year-ago occupant All My Children.” AHEM!!!! Disney stockholders………….. Are you listening to the viewers? We’re not happy! What are you gonna do about it?????? Oh….. Right! And sponsors????? Where are you???? Are you listening to the audience? Oh. I’m sorry. There is no audience. Hmmmm. What are you gonna do?????

  • Anne

Well, Anne Sweeney, looks like the daytime soap fans can’t be trained like Pavlov’s dogs. And Nielsen Company, take a demographic look. Women Over 49 control alot of TVs. Anne Sweeney, isn’t it time ABC/Disney admitted that they made a mistake and put All My Children and One Life to Live back on the air? Who knows, ABC/Disney may need OUR support when TV-as-we-know-it shifts to a new pardigm in the next 7 to 10 years, if not less. The shift has already started. You’ll need all the “eyeballs” you can hold onto.

  • slj730

I truly hope ABC is taking the time to reassess their plans for the future of ABC daytime. These ratings are terrible for both shows. Neither One Life to Live or All My Children should have been canceled. The proof of demand is in these ratings. Thank you Mr. Berman yet again for reporting on this.

I hope that sponsors are aware, or soon become aware that they are losing a significant chunk of potential consumers based on the programming decisions of ABC.

  • cbarbie

I ended up in a waiting room with The Revolution on their TV. Like a car wreck I had to watch. So, glad I did! Did you know you get better bargains shopping on weekdays instead of Saturdays. Gasp! I didn’t know! How would people live with out this life changing information if the cancel the show? ABC just ignore all your viewers all keep giving this GREAT show! NOT!!! : )

  • Save TheSoaps

abc, wake up and admit you made a mistake! Everyone makes mistakes and the fans will forgive if you just own up apologize and return AMC & OLTL. I f not we will continue to boycott all programming except GH. We are serious about this! Even Forbes is saying you made a mistake of epic proportions comparable to Coke classic. However Coke listened to their consumers and switched back fast! The wise person learns by other peoples mistakes and owns up to thier own, WISE UP abc!

  • ShannonB

If my heart didn’t break every time I think about OLTL’s or AMC’s cancellation, this would be a fascinating study in business…how much resentment & anger can a corporation cause to its customers (i.e. viewers) and how much money will it lose before admitting a huge mistake was made? The fact that these 2 miserable shows are taking slots away from wonderfully written, acted & produced programs is a travesity.

    • Troy Turner

Shannon, this WILL be a case study in a textbook somewhere, especially if they keep the R and dump GH. I don’t believe for a second that these decisions were tested out. I firmly believe they thought they could get away with this because CBS/P-G axed GL/ATWT first. Guess again…

  • auntjane

Thanks, Marc for another great article. I detest The Revolution and The Chew and love to see their numbers decreasing every week. I miss my OLTL and others miss AMC just as much. Seeing The Revolution failing and The Chew with lower numbers helps the sadness somewhat. Thanks so much for keeping us informed. Good job!!!

  • HowlingWolfLeather

I am VERY pleased to see the ratings of this show falling, The network was repeatedly asked to find solutions to lower that cost of airing All My Children and One Life To Live yet chose to walk away from them.
I can only hope the ABC network will come to the realization that in order to keep viewers they have to listed to what the viewers want to watch and leave GH on the air or even perhaps find a way to bring back AMC and OLTL back in some form of daytime programming.
Many fans are boycotting all but General Hospital and this is shown in ABC’s primetime ratings as they too have shown a downslide since the April 14th announcement of the cancellation of All My Children and One Life To Live, If they should cancel GH I believe that ABC’s ratings will bottom out as the lowest rated network because of the disrespect shown to the viewers in regards to their programming (and Lack Of It)

  • TikiBarb

Thank you Marc Berman for another article telling the truth about daytime TV. Hopefully ABC/DISNEY will see what a big mistake they made not listening to their audience and will not compound it by cancelling General Hospital…………………….keep us informed Marc and thanks again.

  • Sweetmama

I cant believe what Abc/Disney is doing to there Network they are Destroying it .just to save a few dollars .well how is that working out for you.CHEAP DOES NOT MEAN BETTER.

  • AlaskaJim

I have been a loyal viewer of AMC, OLTL and GH since 1975, when I began watching them when I was 13 years old. For the past 13 years I would watch AMC during my lunch hour at my office, but since September 23rd I have not watched the AMC replacement show. Even though I watched OLTL and currently GH on Soapnet at night, thought I will go back to taping GH when Soapnet is gone, I would never even consider watching the OLTL replacement show. I do enjoy fitness shows, as I am a big fan of The Biggest Loser, which has one of NBC top soap stars, Alison Sweeney hosting, but what makes it good is that it is just a weekly show. If I want to work out with Bob Harper, Jillian Michaels or Dolvett on a daily basis I buy there DVD’s. I am also a big fan of Ty Pennington, but he also can’t get me to watch his new show, as I wish he would go back to what he does well and build homes!

  • MistyV76

Thank you Marc Berman for telling the inconvenient truth about ABC/D. They are clearly in denial at this point. Will they even be a network in ten years at this rate? If they drop GH their whole audience will drop to no one. I really do not understand Neilsen boxes and that whole scam. I do not have a box & therefore I am not even counted, probably like millions of viewers who love soap operas. At this point, ABC/D should be asking “Shouldn’t we listen to what our demographic wants instead of worrying about a few million dollars?” Bob Iger is making 30 million a year on top of whatever else he gets paid elsewhere. We will not go away and we demand to be heard, so make yourselves comfortable because we are staying for the long haul.

  • Barbara

Great article. I wish the execs at ABC/D would pay attention. How the heck are they making any money of this new approach. They should never had cancelled OLTL. And if they cancel GH, they are going to lose millions of viewers, not just the daytime viewers, but viewers of all their channels. Many are boycotting them now. I’m down to only a few shows on primetime. I used to watch ABC/D all day and all night. Not anymore.

  • devotedtodaytimeSOAPS

Thanks for a great article Marc! We knew the Chews ratings were not right and this just confirms that their numbers are also lower than AMC was one year ago. We knew no one was watching a bunch a idiots jumping around on stage and who are not very sanitary when they cook. They should at least use hand sanitizer if they are not washing their hands. Also the tall skinny lady who shows her idiocy I was on the cooking channel that she was one of those chefs trying to compete in the kitchen , and they sent her packing. She could not cook then and she can’t cook now. What does that tell you about ABC/Disney very dumb decision to cancel our soaps for these people and shows. They don’t hold a candle to AMC and OLTL. Bring back what we want!! Our soap opera’s. WE want all three of them returned back to our 1-4 time slots! Wake up ABC!

  • SSW71

Time for ABC/D to get rid of The Chew and The Revolution and bring back AMC and OLTL ! ABC/D are ONLY embrassing themselves….

  • Pingback: ‘The Revolution’ Hits New Series Low, Bringing Down ‘General Hospital’ | Soap Opera Network()

  • mary22

Thanks Marc for another great article. I wish ABC/Disney would just wake up and admit that they made a mistake. It takes a big person to say that they were wrong just do it ABC/Disney!!!! We want our shows back now!
