Jay Leno in Rumored Conversations to Join CNN

December 18, 2013 by Marc Berman in Highlights with 0 Comments

Nothing is confirmed at press time. But according to the Hollywood Reporter, departing “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno may be reunited with his former NBC boss Jeff Zucker. Leno, who is being replaced by Jimmy Fallon in conjunction with the Winter Olympics in February (Leno’s final day as host of “Tonight” is Feb. 6), is apparently in conversations with CNN to host a potential primetime or late night venture. Zucker has publicly stated he wants to broaden the appeal of CNN to less news and more entertainment, and Leno (who is leaving “Tonight” for the second time) is in search of a gig.

Leno, of course, departed from “The Tonight Show” in May 2009 for a weeknight 10 p.m. ET primetime variety hour. But sluggish ratings sent the lantern-jawed comedian back to his old stomping ground on March 1, 2010 (in place of then host Conan O’Brien, who found a new gig on TBS). Leno, 63, and his representative, attorney Ken Ziffren, are said to be refusing to entertain offers until the host fulfills his obligation to NBC on Feb. 6.
