“Lucky 7″ (ABC): 9-1 Odds

“LUCKY 7” – Tuesday 10 p.m.
Based on BBC series “The Syndicate,” seven employees working at a service station in Queens, New York see their lives completely change after they win the lottery. Isiah Whitlock, Jr. (“The Wife”), Stephen Louis Grush, Summer Bishil (“Towelhead”), Anastasia Phillips (“Skins”) and Luis Antonio Ramos star. Steven Spielberg is an executive producer.
.
-Lead-in: “Trophy Wife”
-Competition: “Person of Interest” (CBS), “Chicago Fire” (NBC)

-The Scoop:
Luis Antonio Ramos on being cast on “Lucky 7”:

“I’ve got to tell you something. I’m a Puerto Rican guy. I’m a Latino from New York, and I’ve been in business, like, 34 years. I did I’ve done a lot of different shows. I’ve played bad guys in, like, every show on every network and every cable network and that’s and I actually left L.A. five years ago because I was tired of doing that. It was just sucking away my soul. And I sent these guys an email, and after reading the pilot and after reading the first two episodes after that, I said, “Man, for me, it justifies my having left L.A. and going back to New York to do theater, to do independent films.”

To then walk into something like “Lucky 7″ as an actor, especially as a Latin actor in the climate that this country is in right now, to represent somebody with a heart and soul and integrity, that’s big for me. I was I was really I was tired. I was really tired. I was tired of playing bad guys and stabbing people in the neck and doing those kinds of things. It was wearing me out. And as an actor, to have gotten these scripts, to read these things and to bring life to that, you can’t beat that. That’s the lottery for me. I don’t care if I ever make ever hit the lottery. That’s the lottery for me as an actor at this point in my life at this age, that’s like cash, and to work with these guys, and they are all actors.”

-The Reality:
Let’s be honest…TV shows about people who win the lottery do not resonate. Remember “Windfall,” the latest entry, on NBC in 2006? Minus the proven lead-in support and opposite two relocated returnees – “Person of Interest” on CBS and “Chicago Fire” on NBC – chances of attracting a sizeable audience is as likely as winning the lottery. It won’t happen for no-so “Lucky 7.”

-Odds of Survival for “Lucky 7” (Based on 1-1 to 10-1 odds):
9-1

It’s about the only new ABC series that appeals to me. Besides, I’m not of fan of either “Person of Interest” or “Chicago Fire.”
