TCA SUMMER PRESS TOUR
Cable – Day Two
The second day of the cable portion of the Summer Press Tour opened with four sessions with GMC (movie Somebody’s Child, reality series The Bulloch Family Ranch, documentary/reality series I Forgive You, and movie Christmas Angel), followed by Starz, which featured Encore drama – The Crimson Petal and the White and returning drama Boss with Kelsey Grammer. Known, of course, for his record 20-season stint as Dr. Frasier Crane (9 of Cheers, 11 on spin-off Frasier), Crane is now virtually unrecognizable as deathly ill Chicago Mayor Tom Kane.
“I can’t tell you how many people come up and tell me, ‘That’s the best thing you’ve ever done!’,” said Grammer about the ratings-challenged Boss. “And there are also people who come up to me and say, ‘When are you coming back to television?’”
In the upcoming second season of Boss, which debuts Friday, Aug. 17, Kane beats back the physical symptoms of his neurological disorder with high doses of medication, but suffers from the psychological manifestations of the disease.
A Hallmark Channel working lunch followed with a variety of upcoming celebrities appearing on the cable network including Andie MacDowell and Dylan Neal, who will be featured in Cedar Cove, the cable net’s first regularly scheduled series; Home & Family hosts Paige Davis and Mark Steines, which debuts on October 1; and Patricia Heaton, Marilu Henner, Naomi Judd, Joey Lawrence, Teri Polo, Annie Potts and Patricia Richardson. Marie Osmond, who will be hosting a weekday talk show on Hallmark, appear in a taped message.
Next was a session on reality series Coast Guard Florida on The Weather Channel, while Discovery was the focus in the afternoon, with sessions on Breaking Amish on TLC, The Brokaw Files on Military Channel, Overhaulin’ on Velocity, Married to the Army: Alaska on OWN, Deadly Affairs on Investigation Discovery, Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet and Discovery Channel’s Curiosity: Plane Crash.
“What I love about Deadly Affairs is the way they are producing the show,” said Deadly Affairs host Susan Lucci. “It has a different look than anything that I have seen. Admittedly, I haven’t seen everything of this genre, but I have watched many shows. While the dramatic reenactment is on location, I’m playing a character as well. It’s not myself. I’m playing a character, which frees things up. And I am also on location, which adds to the storytelling. And the locations and the costume changes and all of that always are organic to the storytelling.”
Coming up on the final day at The Summer Press Tour tomorrow: Arnold Schwarzenegger, who will be present at ESPN’s portion.

Metered Market Thursday Ratings
It is All About The London Olympics on NBC
Metered Market Results
CBS 3.2/ 5
ABC 1.9/ 3
Fox 1.1/ 2
CW 0.4/ 1
The London Olympics more than tripled the competition in the overnights last night, with a 22.8 rating/37 share for the primetime portion. It peaked in the 10 p.m. half hour with a 27.2/42.
Outside of Wipeout on ABC and Big Brother on CBS, which competed against each other in the 9 p.m. hour, everything else was a repeat. CBS populated the evening with encore telecasts of The Big Bang Theory (#2: 4.1/ 7) and Two and a Half Men (#2: 3.3/ 6) from 8-9 p.m., followed by Big Brother (#2: 3.6/ 6) and a repeat of Person of Interest (#2: 2.4/ 4) from 9-11 p.m. Once Big Brother concludes for the season, Person of Interest will move back to Thursday at 9 p.m. into new drama Elementary.
ABC opened with a repeat of Wipeout (#3: 2.2/ 4 at 8 p.m.), followed by the original installment of Wipeout (#3: 2.3/ 4) and an encore telecast of Canadian drama Rookie Blue (#3: 1.3/ 2) from 9-11 p.m.
Elsewhere, two repeat of Raising Hope on Fox (#4: avg. 1.1/ 2 from 8-9 p.m.) led into an encore of relocated Glee (#4: 1.0/ 2 at 9 p.m.), which faces heavy competition next fall. And The CW aired repeats of The Vampire Diaries (#5: 0.5/ 1) and Canadian drama The L.A. Complex (#5: 0.3/ 1).

The Chew in Primetime
It is not a permanent move. But ABC is hoping to ignite interest in daytime food-themed chatfest The Chew (and its fall line-up) with a one-hour primetime special on Sunday, September 2 at 7 p.m. ET. Featured will be a host of stars of upcoming ABC series including Andre Braugher (Last Resort), Jami Gertz (The Neighbors), Hayden Panettiere (Nashville), Reba (Malibu Country) and Vanessa Williams and Terry O’Quinn of 666 Park Avenue. Mario Batali, Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly and Daphne Oz host.

Good Afternoon America – Week Three
The news remained grim for week three of last-place ABC daytime entry Good Afternoon America, which dipped to 1.70 million viewers and continues to lose about one-half of the year-ago One Life to Live audience. It will be interesting to see what happens when veteran General Hospital steps into the 2 p.m. ET hour this fall. Elsewhere, The View on ABC is down but still tops; second-place The Talk on CBS was close to year-ago levels; and third-place The Chew on ABC is no All My Children.
For a closer look, here are the results for the quartet (with change versus the comparable year-ago period in parentheses):
The View (ABC): 3.14 million (-15), The Talk (CBS): 2.20 (- 1), The Chew (ABC); 2.12 (-18 from All My Children), Good Afternoon America (ABC): 1.70 (-39 from One Life to Live)
The View (ABC): 716,000 (-25), The Talk (CBS): 594,000 (- 9), The Chew (ABC): 471,000 (-32), Good Afternoon America (ABC): 404,000 (-50)
The View (ABC): 556,000 (-23), The Talk (CBS): 442,000 (-15), The Chew (ABC); 356,000 (-32), Good Afternoon America (ABC): 293,000 (-57)
The View (ABC): 200,000 (-12), The Talk (ABC): 132,000 (-10), The Chew (ABC): 129,000 (-17), Good Afternoon America (ABC): 106,000 (-50)
