CBS AND FOX LEAD WEEK OF APRIL 9

CBS and Fox dominated this second week in April, with CBS most-watched, Fox tops in adults 18-49 and adults 18-34, and the two tied among adults 25-54, according to Nielsen. Excluding The CW, which dropped by double-digit percentages, the Big 4 nets were close to year-ago levels.

There were two series premieres this week, ABC sitcom The B____ in Apartment 23 and CBS crime solver NYC 22. The B_____ in Apartment 23 opened with 6.91 million viewers (#38 overall) and a 2.9 rating/7 share among adults 18-49 (#14t) in the Wednesday 9:30 p.m. half-hour. Comparably, this was similar to the debut of year-ago time period occupant Happy Endings, with retention out of Modern Family (Viewers: 10.35 million; A18-49: 4.2/11) of 67 percent in total viewers and 69 percent in the demo. Overall, this was not a bad start (but not stellar by any means either).

NYC 22 on CBS was a disappointment at 8.86 million viewers (#23) and a 1.5/ 4 among adults 18-49 (#58t) in the Sunday 10 p.m. hour. Comparably, that was below former on-the-fence occupant CSI: Miami (which is more likely to earn a renewal now), with retention out of lead-in The Good Wife (10.16 million; A18-49: 1.8/ 4) of 87 percent in total viewers and 83 percent in the demo. While the retention was respectable, the older skew will likely send NYC 22 to the land of the forgotten.

In week two news, ABC drama Scandal was close to week-ago opening levels at 7.28 million viewers (#34) and a 2.0/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#37t) in the Thursday 10 p.m. hour. Retention for Scandal out of Grey’s Anatomy (Viewers: 8.85 million; A18-49: 2.9/ 8) was 82 percent in total viewers and 69 percent in the demo. Sitcom BFF on NBC, meanwhile, slid to an abysmal 2.78 million viewers (#82) and a 0.9/ 2 among adults 18-49 (#75t) in the Wednesday 9:30 p.m. half-hour.

In season (or series) finale news, sophomore crime solver Body of Proof concluded on ABC with 10.05 million viewers (#15) and a 1.9/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#40t), which placed it first in the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour in both total viewers and the demo. For TVMI’s prediction if Body of Proof will return, click on the following: http://tinyurl.com/bnwrvzc.

In the specials department, ACM Presents: Lionel Richie and Friends on CBS averaged 7.74 million viewers (#32) and a 1.4/ 4 in the demo (#62t) in the Friday 9-11 p.m. block (in place of pre-empted CSI: NY and Blue Bloods).
