Remembering Dick Clark

Remembering Dick Clark

April 19, 2012 by Marc Berman in Highlights with 1 Comment

One day after the passing of legendary Dick Clark, friends and colleagues remember the entertainment icon.

“For more than half a century, Dick Clark brought the best of American music to audiences across the country, creating careers and countless fans for artists on his iconic shows, American Bandstand and New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” said Robert Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company. “We’re proud that ABC was home to those programs and will always be part of his legacy. On behalf of everyone at Disney and ABC, we send our sincere condolences to Dick’s family, as well as the three generations of fans who will miss him as much as we do.”

Daniel M. Snyder, Chairman, Dick Clark Productions and Mark Shapiro, Chief Executive Officer, Dick Clark Productions issued the following statements about Dick Clark:

Daniel M. Snyder, Chairman, Dick Clark Productions
“One of the real draws when we purchased Dick Clark Productions was the opportunity to build on the tremendous foundation of programming that this icon of American broadcasting created. I got to know Dick over the past five years and he was just as personable and warm in person as he was on television. Once you got to know Dick, it was obvious why he was so beloved by his fans. He was in every sense of the word, a giant.

Dick Clark will be sorely missed. He was truly one of a kind.”

Mark Shapiro, Chief Executive Officer, Dick Clark Productions
“Dick Clark was an American institution. He was able to replicate the magic he brought to American Bandstand, not once but several times, through The Golden Globes, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and thousands of hours of programming in almost every genre imaginable. He was the first of his kind — a pioneer, entrepreneur and creative visionary who bridged and cultivated the music scene with traditional show business.

Dick Clark entertained and touched the lives of several generations. He is truly irreplaceable and will be greatly missed by the employees of our company and millions of fans worldwide.”

GSN will pay tribute to Dick Clark with an original remembrance during the network’s broadcasts of $25,000 Pyramid over the next several days, and will add an additional hour of the show to its schedule this Saturday, April 21.

I’ve always loved American originals, and Dick was certainly one of those, RIP Dick, you certainly deserve it. And to Mr Iger: You have to be kidding me, right? You care about legacies only when it suits you?? What about the legacy of AMC/OLTL?
