“Sleepy Hollow” – Monday 9 p.m.

After being mortally wounded in a Revolutionary War battle, a man (Tom Mison, “Parade’s End”) wakes up two centuries later in the town of Sleepy Hollow and realizes the person he killed, The Headless Horseman, has also returned from the dead. Katia Winter (“Dexter”), Nicole Beharie (“The Good Wife”) and Orlando Jones also star.

-Lead-in: Bones
-Competition: “Dancing With the Stars” (ABC), “2 Broke Girls” and “Mom” (CBS), “The Voice” (NBC), “Beauty and the Beast” (CW)

-The Scoop:
The goal of “Sleepy Hollow,” according to co-creator and executive producer Len Wiseman is to offer a mixture of horror and fun. “One of the most exciting things about this is presenting the Headless Horseman in a new light,” he said. “We see how he operates when he’s confronted with modern-day weapons and how he would adapt to that. When he comes back, he’s a man — we want how much perspective he can show without expression.”

-The Reality:
Unfortunately, there may not be much fun once the initial ratings come in for “Sleepy Hollow.” Although the bar is low due to the huge failure of fall 2012 time period occupant “Mob Doctor” and there is still some life left in lead-in “Bones,” the competition (“The Voice” on NBC, in particular) is fierce. And the concept of a horseman running around without a head might work better in a one-shot movie rather than a regularly scheduled TV series on the first night of the workweek. While there may be some curious sampling, dancing, singing and those “2 Broke Girls” are awfully hard to compete with.

-Odds of Survival for “Sleepy Hollow” (Based on 1-1 to 10-1 odds): 10-1
