Nothing…62 percent of the schedule were repeats.

Ratings Breakdown:
Two hours of So You Think You Can Dance led Fox to Wednesday overnight victory, and it should be enough to win the evening among coveted adults 18-49. The now veteran dancing competition averaged a 4.1 rating/7 share from 8-10 p.m., which compared to one year earlier was down by seven percent.

The standout on second-place NBC, of course, was America’s Got Talent, which took top-rated honors for the evening with a 5.4/10 from 9-10 p.m. While that almost tripled the overnight rating of an encore telecast of lead-in Up All Night (#4, 1.8/ 3 at 8:30 p.m.), it did fall year-to-year by 23 percent. Could the ongoing “battle” between Howie Mandel and Howard Stern be a stunt to ignite interest?

Earlier in the evening on NBC was an encore telecast of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers (#4: #4, 3.0/ 6 at 8 p.m.), which will return in midseason. While you should not judge a series by a repeat, the loss of 40 percent in the overnights for aforementioned Up All Night at 8:30 p.m. means the freshman comedy should not be returning next season. Nor should most of the returning NBC sitcoms.

At 10 p.m., an encore telecast of tired Law & Order: SVU capped off evening for the Peacock net with a third-place 3.2/ 6.

In season (or series) finale news, Dogs in the City on CBS concluded second in the 8 p.m. hour with a 3.4/ 6. While this show does skew older (and it did dip by 23 percent in the overnights from Big Brother one year earlier), it was a true pleasure to see something inspirational of a reality nature. That alone should be enough to warrant a second season.

Next on CBS were encore telecasts of Criminal Minds (#3: 3.4/ 6) and CSI (#2: 3.4/ 6) from 9-11 p.m.

In week three news, Final Witness on ABC inched past the competition at 10 p.m. with a 3.5/ 6 in the overnights. Comparably, that built from a 9:30 p.m. repeat installment of Modern Family (#4: 2.9/ 5) by 21 percent. Earlier in the evening on the alphabet net were encores of sitcoms The Middle (#3: 3.1/ 6), Suburgatory (#3: 2.5/ 4) and the regularly scheduled installment of Modern Family (#4: 2.8/ 5) from 8-9:30 p.m.

Over at The CW, back-to-back repeats of veteran America’s Next Top Model averaged a 0.7/ 1 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Once Tyra Banks and company move into the Friday anchor position, it should be curtains.

Good Afternoon America Loses Steam in Day Two
Two days of metered market data does not a hit or miss make. But with weaker lead-in support, Good Afternoon America on ABC dipped to a 1.6 rating/5 share in households in the overnights in day two (Tuesday, July 10), which was six percent below the lead-in average (1.7/ 5) and 20 percent below former time period occupant One Life to Live in July 2011 (2.0/ 6). Monday’s opener was a 1.7/ 5 (out of a 1.8/ 5).

Good Afternoon America also declined by margins of 33 percent to 50 percent from the year-ago time period average in the three key female demos as follows:

Women 18-49:
July 2011: 1.0/ 7, Lead-in: 0.5/ 4, Good Afternoon America: 0.5/ 4

Women 25-54:
July 2011: 1.2/ 8, Lead-in: 0.8/ 5, Good Afternoon America: 0.7/ 5

Women 18-34:
July 2011: 0.6/ 4, Lead-in: 0.3/ 2, Good Afternoon America: 0.4/ 2

CABLE

More Falling Skies
TNT has renewed Falling Skies for a third season, with 10 additional hour-long episodes for 2013. This season to-date, the Sunday 9 p.m. occupant is averaging 5.9 million viewers and it ranks as basic cable’s top-rated scripted drama among adults 18-49. Falling Skies, from DreamWorks Television and executive producer Stephen Spielberg, chronicles the devastating aftermath of an alien attack. Noah Wyle (ER) leads the ensemble cast.

Shaquille O’Neal Heads to truTV
Basketball great Shaquille O’Neal, who is no stranger to hosting his own reality series (think 2009-10 ABC summer entry Shaq vs.), will headline a non-scripted series on truTV tentatively titled Upload with Shaquille O’Neal. Each week, Shaq and his buddies Gary Owen (Think Like a Man), who hosts the series, and Godfrey (The Mr. Men Show), plus a special guest, will search the Internet for the funniest online videos to comment on. Upload with Shaquille O’Neal will also feature original videos, pranks and parodies of pop culture stories.

The original half-hour comes to truTV from FishBowl Worldwide Media and Shaq Entertainment. Ten episodes have been ordered for an expected debut in 2013.

Me-TV Remembers Ernest Borgnine
Classic television themed Me-TV will pay tribute to the late Ernest Borgnine with an airing of 1964 theatrical McHale’s Navy, which was based on the 1962-66 sitcom of the same name, this Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.
