Ratings Breakdown:
NBC reigned supreme courtesy of the Boston Bruins vs. the Chicago Blackhawks on game one of the 2013 “Stanley Cup Final,” which averaged a 4.8 rating/8 share in the overnights from 8-11 p.m. (peaking in the 10:30 p.m. half-hour with a 5.5/10). For a hockey matchup, this is impressive.

In week three news, older skewing CBS reality/competition “The American Baking Competition” perked up to a second-place 4.1/ 7 at 8 p.m., which was 21 percent above one week earlier. Three-week overnight track: 3.5/ 6 – 3.4/ 6 – 4.1/ 7). Next were encores of “Criminal Minds” (#2: 4.4/ 7) and “CSI” (#2: 4.6/ 8) from 9-11 p.m.

Third overall in the overnights was two-hours of “Masterchef” on Fox, which scored a consistent 4.0/ 7 from 8-10 p.m., which will certainly resonate in the young adult demographics. ABC had a combination of new and non-original, with a repeat of “The Middle” (#4: 3.3/ 6), canceled “Family Tools” (#4: 2.7/ 5), a repeat of Modern Family” (#4: 3.2/ 5), canceled “How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life”, #4: 3.0/ 5) and original newsmagazine “The Lookout” (#3: 2.9/ 5). The demographics will tell the real story, of course, but 94 percent overnight retention for “How To Live With Your Parents” out of “Modern Family” does indicate that ABC may have swung the axe too quickly on the quirky half-hour.

The CW capped off the evening with encores of “Arrow” (#5: 1.1/ 2) and “Supernatural” (#5: 0.7/ 1).

OTHER NETWORK NEWS

Fox Completes Upfront Advertising Sales on the Downside
Fox is the third network about to complete its upfront advertising sales (behind CBS and The CW), but an estimated $1.75 billion in commitments from advertisers for the upcoming television season in primetime is down in the vicinity of 10 percent from one year earlier. And part of that erosion, of course, stems from a deteriorating “American Idol” and an overall schedule marred by a loss of 22 percent among adults 18-49 year-to-year. Average ad rates rose by at a reported 5 to 7 percent, and Fox has snagged commitments for about 80 percent of its ad inventory.

As a reminder, Fox will introduce four new series next fall (drama “Sleepy Hollow,” sitcoms “Dads” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and reality/competition “Junior Masterchefs”), with scheduled changes impacting Monday, Tuesday and Friday. For more, click on the following: http://tinyurl.com/bts5qk8

Starz to Develop Post Civil War Drama
Starz will develop a post civil war-based drama called “Monsters of God” from writer, director and producer Rod Lurie (“The Contender,” “The Last Castle”) in conjunction with Plan B Entertainment. Set in Texas in 1867 during the Comanche Wars, “Monsters of God” will follow two powerful ex-cavalry men, a war-hungry Colonel and his seemingly by-the-book executive officer as they struggle to maintain order over the men in their command while being faced with the challenges of an uncivilized territory. Lurie and his producing partner Marc Frydman will executive produce via their Battleplan Productions banner. “Monsters of God” is expected to bow in 2014.

BBC America to Air a Miniseries Exploring the Science Fiction Genre
BBC America and BBC Two have announced the co-production of a four-part docuseries called “My God, It’s Fall of Stars: A Journey to the Edge of Science Fiction,” which will focus the genre’s impact on television, cinema and literature. Each episode will explore one of the themes of science fiction, including time travel, the exploration of space, robots and artificial intelligence, and aliens. The executive producer for the BBC is Michael Poole and overseeing production for BBC America are Richard De Croce and Rachel Smith. There is no announced airdate yet for this project.
