THE LAST SHIP VIES FOR A SPOT IN 2013

TNT is hoping to extend its inventory of hit scripted dramas with an adaptation of The Last Ship, which is based on the novel by William Brinkley and is executive produced by Michael Bay (Transformers). The project, which follows life after a global catastrophe, comes to TNT from Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, whose credits include A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

“The book The Last Ship is a gripping page-turner that has all the makings of a terrific television drama, including a great premise, memorable characters, intense situations and heart-racing action,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We believe this show will take viewers on a thrilling ride and fits perfectly with TNT’s expanding line-up of original dramas. We look forward to working with Michael Bay and The Last Ship’s outstanding production team.”

This series sounds very promising to me. TNT has been a wonderful station especially during the summer months. There are so many good programs to choose from. Scripted drama is NOT dead and I wish a station like TNT would consider bringing back some of the daytime soap operas (also known as scripted dramas). There is a huge audience for these shows especially since “reality” programs are over-saturating the market.
