Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Michael “The Situation” Sorentino and the rest of the housemates debuted on hit MTV docuseries “Jersey Shore” in 2009. It aired for seven editions through the end of 2012 and spun-off two non-scripted half-hours: “The Pauly D Project” with Paul “DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio, and “Snooki & JWoww” with Snooki and Jennifer “JWoww” Farley. Also on this day was the 200th episode of CBS serialized drama “Knots Landing” in 1987, which featured the aftermath of the passing of Laura Avery Sumner (Constance McCashin).

Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean overnight household sweep for NBC, which will translate into a solid victory in all key demos. Two-hours of “The Voice” scored a 7.6 rating/12 share from 8-10 p.m., which was right on par from the year-ago evening. And that led into a 7.3/13 for bona fide freshman hit “The Blacklist” at 10 p.m., which rose to its best overnight rating since Oct. 14. Week-to-week, “The Blacklist” built by 11 percent (versus a 6.6/11 on Nov. 25). Keep in mind, of course, that “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC concluded its current edition last week.

Second-place CBS increased by nine-percent versus last week with its combination of “How I Met Your Mother” (#2: 5.5/ 9), “2 Broke Girls” (#2: 5.6/ 9), “Mike & Molly” (#2: 5.8/ 9), “Mom” (#2: 5.1/ 8) and “Hostages” (#3: 3.4/ 6). But the reality of the Eye net’s Monday line-up was year-to-year erosion of 21 percent (with “Hostages,” in particular, down by 46 percent from the 6.3/10 for “Hawaii Five-O” on 12/03/12). Coming up on CBS in the Monday 10 p.m. hour effective on January 13 is midseason drama “Intelligence” (which will preview out of “NCIS” at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, January 7th).

Over at ABC, annual animated holiday special, “A Charlie Brown Christmas” finished third with a 4.3/ 7 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that was 13 percent above the 3.8/ 7 for its year-ago telecast (on Tuesday 12/18/12) and the young adult demos are expected to be notably stronger than prior (and returning) time period occupant “Dancing With the Stars.” Next was two-hour special, “CMA Country Christmas” at a 4.6/ 8 from 9-11 p.m., which only fluctuated by two-tenths of a rating point in the four half-hours.

Elsewhere, week three of Fox drama “Almost Human” as the Monday 8 p.m. anchor scored a 4.2/ 7 (#4), which was five percent below one week earlier. And that 4.4/ 7 last week translated into 6.12 million viewers and a 1.9 rating/5 share among adults 18-49, based on the live plus same day data. Three week overnight track for “Almost Human”: 4.8/ 7 – 4.4/ 7 – 4.2/ 7). Next on Fox was an encore of “Sleepy Hollow” at a distant fourth-place 2.2/ 3 at 9 p.m.

The CW pre-empted its low-rated pairing of “Hart of Dixie” and “Beauty and the Beast” for a repeat of 2002 theatrical “It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie,” which scored a mere 0.8/ 1 from 8-10 p.m.

OTHER NETWORK ITEMS

Sam Champion to Exit ABC for The Weather Channel
“Good Morning America” anchorman Sam Champion is leaving ABC effective tomorrow to join The Weather Channel as both the anchor of its upcoming flagship morning show, which is set to debut in early 2014, and the network’s managing editor. Champion, who joined ABC 25 years ago as weather anchor for WABC in New York, has been a daily fixture on “GMA” since 2006. Champion will relocate to Atlanta for this new opportunity and will remain host of weekly syndicated educational and information program “Sea Rescue,” which airs during Litton’s “Weekend Adventure” block.

NBC Developing Eliot Ness Miniseries
Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (“Chicago,” “Smash,” “The Academy Awards”), who are behind the live production of “The Sound of Music” on NBC this Thursday, are taking a more serious turn with an upcoming eight-hour miniseries for NBC focusing on iconic Prohibition agent Eliot Ness. Based on the book “Nemesis: The Final Case of Eliot Ness” by William Bernhardt, the Sony Pictures Television production will be set in 1935 with Ness as Cleveland’s newly appointed Director of Public Safety. Deadline originally reported the news.

Eliot Ness, of course, was portrayed on the big screen by Oscar winner Kevin Costner in the remake of “The Untouchables” in 1987. But Robert Stack immortalized the part in the 1959-63 ABC drama of the same name, which began as a segment on anthology series “Desilu Playhouse” on CBS in 1959. Stack reprised his Emmy winning role in 1991 in NBC made-for TV movie “The Return of Eliot Ness.” Other series with episodes featuring other actors playing Eliot Ness include “Unsolved Mysteries,” “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles” and “Supernatural.”

“Jimmy Kimmel Live” Rises to a Season High on ABC
Based on the live plus same day data for the week of November 18 (and excluding NBA Finals week in June), late night occupant “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on ABC rose to its largest overall audience — 2.86 million total viewers, 1.05 million adults 18-49 — since its first week at 11:35 p.m. ET (week of Jan. 7, 2013). Comparably, Kimmel built by 15 percent in total viewers and 29 percent in adults 18-49 from one week earlier, with gains over the year-ago week (at 12:05 a.m. ET) of 63 percent and 86 percent, respectively.

For the week, “Jimmy Kimmel Live” ranked as the week’s No. 2 talker in late night in adults 18-49, with only 59,000 viewers behind “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” in the demo on NBC.

Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan Return as Co-Hosts of the “Academy of Country Music Awards”
Four-time ACM Award winner Blake Shelton and reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year Luke Bryan will return to co-host the 49TH annual “Academy of Country Music Awards.” Broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 6 from 8-11 p.m. and produced by dick clark productions, this will be Shelton’s fourth consecutive turn and Bryan’s second hosting the Awards telecast.

Ratings Surge for “The NFL on CBS”
Coverage of the Week 13 NFL doubleheader on CBS was notably above average on Sunday, Dec. 1st. The network’s late afternoon window (beginning at 4:25 PM ET) earned a 17.4 rating/31 share in the household overnights — the top NFL rating for any game that day and up by 14 percent from the year-ago 15.3/28 (Pittsburgh-Baltimore, Cincinnati-San Diego, Cleveland-Oakland). The late games on Sunday featured Denver’s 35-28 victory over Kansas City and Cincinnati’s 17-10 win over San Diego. For more, click on the following: http://tinyurl.com/lrd3hdm

Solid Midseason Finale for “The Walking Dead”
The midseason ender of AMC mega-hit “The Walking Dead” delivered 12.1 million total viewers and 7.7 million adults 18-49 on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, which brought the first eight episodes of the current fourth season to an average of 13 million viewers and 8.4 million adults 18-49. After-show “Talking Dead,” hosted by Chris Hardwick, followed with a record 6 million viewers and 3.8 million adults 18-49 at 10 p.m., which season to-date built by 128 percent in total viewers and 120 percent in the demo. “The Walking Dead” will return for the second half of this fourth season on Sunday, February 9 (followed by new episodes of “Talking Dead” and “Comic Book Men”).

History Developing Miniseries “Hannibal” with Halle Berry
History is developing a miniseries headlined and executive produced by Academy Award winner Halle Berry tentatively titled “Hannibal,” which will tell the story of the greatest generals in antiquity – Hannibal Birca and his archrival Scipio Africanus – who went head-to-head in the Second Punic War. Co-produced by A&E Studios and Red Arrow Entertainment, Oscar-nominated writer Dirk Hoogstra (“The Constant Garderner,” “Goldeneye”) will pen the script, which begins in Carthage, 264 BC. Steven Jensen, Vincent Cirrincione and Jeffery Caine will also serve as executive producers.

Given that NBC drama “Hannibal” is waiting in the midseason wings for its second season, chances are History will find a different title.

TNT Promotes the Upcoming Launch of “Mob City”
TNT is partnering with advertising agency Deutsch NY to open a pop-up haberdashery in New York’s Chelsea Market (75 9th Avenue, between 15th and 16th Street) through tomorrow in conjunction with the launch of “Mob City.” “Mickey’s Haberdashery,” named for key “Mob City” figure Mickey Cohen, will be designed in the mode of the upcoming scripted mob drama, which is set in 1940s Los Angeles and will offer shoppers a chance to purchase some “Mob City”-themed gifts.

The opening episode of “Mob City,” meanwhile, is about to become the first television screenplay ever to be adapted for and published through Twitter. The so-called “adaptweetion” began rolling out on Twitter through the handle @MobCityTNT yesterday. “Mob City” from writer-director-executive producer Frank Darabont and featuring Jon Bernthal, Ed Burns and Neal McDonough, is slated to air over three consecutive Wednesdays — Dec. 4, 11 and 18 — from 9-11 p.m. ET.
