“Sharknado 2: The Second One” broke the record books on Syfy, with 3.9 million viewers, 1.6 million adults 18-49 and 1.8 million adults 25-54 on Wednesday, according to the Live + Same Day data from Nielsen. Comparably, this is now the cable net’s most-watched original movie ever; and it built from the first “Sharknado” movie (on July 11, 2013) by 183 percent in total viewers, 190 percent in adults 18-49 and 185 percent in adults 25-54.
Socially, “Sharknado 2” delivered one billion estimated impressions on Twitter, at one point holding all top 10 trending topics in the country and making it the most social movie on TV ever.
Syfy will air encore telecasts of “Sharknado 2” again this Saturday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. ET and Sunday, Aug. 3 at 9 p.m. ET.
