CBS Wins, ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ Nears 20 Million Viewers

The 1990’s were the last full decade the broadcast networks still cared about original scripted programming on Saturday nights, especially CBS which featured its two solid Saturday hits, a 2-hour episode of “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” starring Jane Seymour and the night’s No. 1 TV program, by far, the action drama “Walker, Texas Ranger” with Chuck Norris.

At NBC, once-hit sitcom “Empty Nest” would soon conclude its series run in the summer of 1995, while family drama “Sisters” ended in 1996.

And at Fox, the duo of “Cops” and “America’s Most Wanted” were in the early years of being Saturday mainstays for the network which would last until AMW’s departure in 2012 and the venture of “Cops” to cable network Spike in 2013.
