CBS Leads Saturday by Far with ‘Dr. Quinn’ Season Finale

About an average of 18.6 million viewers tuning into a Saturday evening of programming in May. These days, it would take sporting events such as an NFL playoff game, an occasional college football game or the Belmont Stakes (if there were potential for a Triple Crown winner) to draw that kind of figure on the night. Back in the 90’s, CBS had two dramas that drew significant Saturday crowds to TV sets: “Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman” and “Walker, Texas Ranger.” The 2-hour third season finale of the Jane Seymour drama was, by far, the night’s most-watched program. The series would last for three more seasons (totaling six overall) on CBS before finally concluding in 1998. There were also two “Dr. Quinn” TV movies: one in 1999 and the other in 2001.
