On Sunday night, CBS was the winner with total viewers (8.93 million), as ABC led all broadcast networks among adults 18-49 (1.5 rating and 5 share), and adults 25-54 (1.8/5) and Fox was tops in adults 18-34 (1.2/5). HBO (thanks to “Game of Thrones”) and TNT (with NBA Playoff action) either bested or was in tight competition with the broadcast networks among each key demographic.

ABC’s murder-mystery “Secrets and Lies” (Women 18-34: 1.4/5; Men 18-34: 0.7/3; Women 18-49: 2.3/6; Men 18-49: 1.1/3) inches closer to a season renewal as it reached a series-high among adults 18-49 and drew its largest total audience since Mar. 8.

CBS on Top with Part One of ‘Buffalo Girls’ Miniseries

CBS took top honors on this Sunday with its combo of “60 Minutes”, “Murder, She Wrote” (which was winding down its 12-season run) and Part 1 of “Buffalo Girls,” the Larry McMurtry (“Lonesome Dove”) miniseries that starred Anjelica Huston and Melanie Griffith.

Years before cable entered a significant number of households and almost two decades prior to the proliferation of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon, Sunday nights on the Big 3 networks were still headlined with the Sunday Night Movie. ABC (“Unforgiven”) and NBC (“The Return of Hunter” with Fred Dryer) each did reasonably well with their movie presentations despite airing opposite CBS’s top-rated “Buffalo Girls.”
