BUSINESS AS USUAL IN THE TROUBLED DAYPART

Based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings from Nielsen for the week of April 23, it was The View on ABC that dominated the landscape, of course, with 3.37 million viewers. And canceled The Revolution on ABC was the eyesore, with 1.43 million viewers and a loss of 44 percent from year-ago occupant One Life to Live. Here’s an idea: let’s cancel a daytime institution for a show that will…um…change your life. Not!

Better news for ABC, but still far from stellar, was food-themed talker The Chew at 2.44 million viewers (which was six percent below All My Children one year earlier). Demo losses among women 25-54 and women 18-49 were 18 percent and 12 percent, respectively, as follows:

All My Children – Week of 4/25/11
Viewers: 2.42 million, Women 25-54: 1.1/ 7, Women 18-49: 0.8/ 5, Women 18-34: 0.4/ 3

The Chew – Week of 4/23/12
Viewers: 2.27 million, Women 25-54: 0.9/ 6, Women 18-49: 0.7/ 4, Women 18-34: 0.4/ 3

Percent Change – The Chew vs. All My Children

Viewers: – 6, Women 25-54: -18, Women 18-49: -12, Women 18-34: no change

The Talk on CBS, meanwhile, was flat from one year earlier with 2.16 million viewers, a 1.0/ 6 in women 25-54 and a 0.8/ 5 in women 18-48.

Well said again Marc! I’ll say it again: ABC needs to rethink their Daytime Lineup. It may be a “life change” for them to make it “Love in the Afternoon” again, but don’t fix something that was not broken! Also liked seeing that the Talk was “flat” as you state. I am sure As the World Turns fans are happy to see that reality is not in favor on CBS as well.

Week after week the ratings continue to demonstrate what a poor decision it was on ABC’s part to replace soaps with cheap talk shows. Thanks again Marc for your continued updates on this.

I think it’s just a matter of time before viewers start tuning out some of these mundane talk/reality shows. It’s ironic that the new trend is towards Primetime soaps – better known as Dramas. Daytime soaps still have a very healthy fan base and need to be brought back on a Network that will appreciate them.

Time to show them even more that people want stories, not talk or reality shows during the daytime.

What this network has not yet realized is that daytime viewers who worked out of the home and followed AMC or OLTL by watching it on DVR are NOT taping food shows to watch when they get home from work. The 6% loss, I truly believe, is far, far more when the DVR aspect is factored in…which is translating to prime time viewing. AMC fans are by and large will not be placated by SL’s casting in Devious Maids either; we want our shows back…both of them!

44 and 6 now. As for The Chew’s numbers, remember that foodies operate on a totally different plane than we do-and the summer outdoor entertainment season is kicking off. Having said that, The Chew STILL hasn’t beaten AMC’s numbers ONCE. This is still a fail on ABC’s part, despite what other people might say. As always, thanks again Marc.

Thanks Marc for the updates. Until there is a changing of the guard at ABC daytime, I am sure the ratings will continue to fall. They are out of touch with “reality” and do not realize that viewers are bored and tired with reality tv at every turn of the dial. Oltl/AMC were like a good book, that can not be put down. Yes some of the chapters were a little hard to get through, but overall very entertaining.

Thank you once again Marc for givng us the updated results. Once again ,( and it is no surpise to anyone ) ABC finds itself declining. I am sure by now they hate the words “WE TOLD YOU SO !!!

The ratings will continue to fall as long as ABC/D puts on shows we don’t want to see. Soap viewers will stay united and boycott everything except the General Hospital hour!

Glad to see that ratings continue to go down . ABC needs to realize that we are bored w all this reality tv and we just want our soaps back !!! we will continue to fight / boycott until we win !

The show is revolting. Once I was at my doctors office and was forced to watch this crap. It is straight corny. I like the Food Network Better. So tired of reality tv and more talk shows. Don’t we have enough of that already? Prefer the Soap Genre.
