THE TALK ON CBS UP; THE CHEW ON ABC DOWN

Based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings from Nielsen for the week of April 9, veteran The View on ABC remained well above the rest with 3.53 million viewers and as high as a 1.4 rating/9 share among target women 25-54. On the flipside was the network’s canceled The Revolution at a series-low 1.19 million viewers, with a 0.6 rating/share in women 25-54, a 0.4/ 2 in women 18-49 and…gulp…a 0.2/ 1 among women 18-34. One year earlier, One Life to Live averaged 2.50 million viewers, and more than double the rating in the three surveyed demos.

Will The Revolution dip to under 1.0 million viewers before it bids adieu?

Also on ABC, not-so-solid The Chew dropped to just under 2-million viewers, with double-digit percent losses from year-ago occupant All My Children as follows:

All My Children – Week of 4/11/11
Viewers: 2.34 million, Women 25-54: 1.1/ 7, Women 18-49: 0.8/ 6, Women 18-34: 0.5/ 4

The Chew – Week of 4/09/12
Viewers: 1.99 million, Women 25-54: 0.9/ 5, Women 18-49: 0.6/ 4, Women 18-34: 0.4/ 3

Percent Change – The Chew vs. All My Children

Viewers: -15, Women 25-54: -18, Women 18-49: -25, Women 18-34: -20

On CBS, The Talk picked up steam, building year-to-year by 17 percent in total viewers (1.84 to 2.16 million), 11 percent in women 25-54 (0.9/ 6 to 1.0/ 6) and 14 percent in women 18-49 (0.7/ 5 to 0.8/ 6). Results among women 18-34 declined by 20 percent (0.5/ 3 to 0.4/ 3), however.

So happy to see The Chew beginning it’s downward spiral. ABC needs to realize that the soaps were much more valuable than they thought.

Could “The Chew” be next on the ABC Daytime chopping block? Very pleased to see ratings dipping down for it now as well. ABC should have left its daytime programming alone as now it would appear that BOTH All My Children and One Life to Live both out performed their replacements.

I’d also be curious about the other show that displaced a soap – Let’s Make A Deal and see how that is doing… I don’t get why the interest in reporting only Daytime Talk Shows..

I must say that I’m not at all surprised by the Chew’s drop in ratings. It was only a matter of time before this ridiculous show started shedding viewers. Cancelling both All My Children and One Life To Live was the worst decision that the alphabet network every made.

They should put the Revulsion out of its/our misery and rebroadcast classic General Hospital and One Life to Live episodes. The OLTL episodes could focus on characters and stories that are now playing out on GH and serve as a great introduction for the GH viewers who didn’t watch OLTL. And the GH episodes could feature some great blasts from the past. With Heather Webber out of the funny farm and ready to inflict more destruction in her wake, let’s see a week of classic Heather-centric episodes! And what the hell, thrown in a few classic Port Charles episodes featuring Caleb and Liv (now John and Sam on GH).

I don’t know a Soap fan who is watching the Chew, the Revolution or who will watch GMA in the afternoon. There is way to many talk shows and news programming on as it is. They should of and still can think outside the box to make money from Soaps. Bring back AMC and OLTL instead of all this reality, cringe worthy programming. If you do fans will reward you!

How HAPPY I am to hear about The Chew dropping in ratings ! So ABC/D how is force feeding us soap fans this GARBAGE you call daytime ? Not well …. WE SOAP FANS WANT OUR SOAPS ~ AMC and OLTL BACK ON THE AIR … ARE WE BEING LOUD ENOUGH FOR YOU NOW ABC/D?

Is Sweeny & Iger listening yet? Soap opera fans cannot be TRAINED. The revolution is gone & the chew is next. GMA has no chance in the afternoon & poor Katie. If ABC puts AMC, OLTL, GH & then Katie, she has a good chance. ABC had better listen to the fans! GIVE US BACK OUR SOAP OPERAS!!!

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/bcoleman13/ bcoleman13

I wish they would just give us back our Soaps! No replacement show will ever succeed in the afternoon unless it is the Soaps! I wonder if ABC has started caring about their ratings yet? They don’t seem to care! I never believed the ratings on The Chew! It sucks just as bad as the Revolution did! There is nothing they can put on ABC that will be able to take the place of AMC and OLTL! I am thankful they are at least letting us keep GH for awhile!

While soap fans may be celebrating the ratings for “The Chew”, keep in mind that both it and “The Revolution” aired repeat episodes last week. “The Revolution” is also airing reruns this week.

Well, well, well-the consistency continues. And people STILL have the gall to state that The Chew draws the same numbers that AMC did. We’ll take it down, too-it just might take a little longer

Thank you once again Marc Berman for expressing what the fans have been thinking since ABC’s Madness started. It is indeed interesting to wait and see how far down the Chew will slip in the ratings before ABC admits to another mistake. There is an old saying that keeps repeating in my mind “Don’t fix something that isn’t broken” ABC you have much to repair including winning back your daytime viewing audience, which in all probablity will never believe a word you say ever again.

We, the people, have already managed to grant General Hospital a year long reprieve, in recognition of their 50th anniversary in 2013. I have never been much of a watcher for talk shows. When I was a kid, my biggest fascination was Sesame Street, Mister Roger’s Neighborhood, and a movie entitled “The Beastmaster” because it had a scene with quicksand. But ABC/Disney has shown even greater ignorance than me with the ways they have conducted themselves with their over entitlements, terminal stupidity, and their obscene arrogance with GCB, Once Upon A Time, Pan Am, and Grimm; and those are just the scripted works. Now they have The Spew and the finally cancelled Revolution.

ARE WE BEING LOUD AND CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU?!!!! SCREW THE CHEW! YOU WANT A REVOLUTION?! THERE’S BEEN A SOAP REVOLUTION GOING ON FOR THE LAST YEAR! ON THE AIR, ON THE INTERNET, IN THE STREETS OF THE OCCUPPIED CITIES! IN CASE YOU DIDN’T UNDERSTAND US FOR THE FIRST 12 MONTHS, IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WE NEVER, EVER, EVER, BACK DOWN… FROM… A…. FIGHT!

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/dueler312/ Jason

Keep on going down Spew. Soon you will be where your little friend, the Revulsion is. IN the cancellation trash bin.

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/susanmz/ susanmz

    Eschew The Chew.

The dumbing down of all of the shows on TV right now is infuriating. AND, I’m more than sick of ALL reality shows AND being told I’m overweight and/or how to fix myself.

I’ve turned off the TV for the most part most evenings and have chosen to read books instead. As for daytime, the radio is becoming a wonderful friend.

We will fight until we win this fight for our soaps.ABC can choke on the Chew, and this Revolution, and if we not regain our soaps, Katie can say goodbye to her talk show, because no one will be watching it

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/nae/ nae

I have to say, due to the economy, I am sure alot of people have not watched soaps on ABC for years due to the working hours, such as myself. However, I do watch GH on soapnet still :) And I watched AMC and OLTL on there as well until it was cancelled.. BRING OLTL BACK!

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/nicola/ nicola

SMH wow I knew this was coming for the chew i am sooooo hoping that abc/disney cancels this one to and i sooooo hope that the ratings continue to drop even more

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/sweetmama/ Sweetmama

Keep on going down .because this is one viewer that will never ever watch the chew or any other replacement show .I am a PROUD TO BE A SOAP FAN

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/lindseyh/ LindseyH

Hopefully another one will bite the dust! ABC/D thought the Spew and the Revulsion would work better than AMC and OLTL? Perhaps they need a few 18-49 year old women to run their business? Soap viewers are dancing now!

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/divastyle/ divastyle

So glad to see The Chew begin to go downhill, another horrible show that has no business on daytime TV when 100000000000 shows just like it are already on the food network!

ABC did the right thing in cancelling The Revolution but I STILL don’t trust them at all, we MUST continue our fight and tank not only The Chew but GMA Afternoon and Katie’s show as well!!!

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/tinafg/ tinafg

Keep going down, Spew. We’ll see you in May, Disney!

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/kristenh/ KristenH

We’re making progress. If the Chew continues to plummet under 2.0, I bet ABCD will cancel it before it airs its second season. And then, what would they do? Bring back our soaps, I hope. We’re on a victorious roll. No Chew, No Revolution, no GMA in the afternoon, no Katie Couric! Bring back our soaps! NO MORE REALITY! Thanks for posting this Marc.

Thank you, Mr. Berman, for puting light on these numbers. I think the only people who might be surprised at these numbers are the suits at ABC/D. Fans of All My Children and One Life to Live do NOT want to watch people eat (and make stupid faces while they do it); or watch or hear about ANYTHING other than our beloved stories from Pine Valley and Llanview (and Port Charles of course). There is no daytime reality show that could ever have any host, topic or any guest that would make tune in. One down…one to go! #SOS

Thanks for your articles. I so hope the Chew gets cancelled. ABC/D made a big mistake cancelling our 2 beloved soaps. In fact I hope ABC gets cancelled.

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/owensborosteve/ OwensboroSteve

The Chew and The Revolution are two shows cut from the same cloth. I would encourage everyone to boycott The Chew so that it can suffer the same fate as the now-cancelled The Revolution. Keep the pressure on ABC and the other networks to let them know we want our soaps to air in the afternoons! KEEP GH ALIVE ON ABC!

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/celticcalloway/ celticcalloway

I hope this opens abc’s eyes — they without thought, did not think of abc’s viewers, did not consider the actors and actresses on the soaps, their livelyhoods, and just ruined their stations. All I can say, bring back out shows –

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/okicarol/ okicarol

Why is it that I can’t feel bad for ABC/D?—— Oh yeah, they cancelled my Soaps. That is why I stopped watching ABC except for GH and Castle

  • http://www.tvmediainsights.com/members/mary22/ mary22

Can we say bye bye The Chew lets bring it down!!! We brought down the Revolution we will continue to fight for our shows! Bring back the soaps!

I am glad that the Chew is going down in ratings now as well . We won a battle and got the Revolution cancled now this show is next ! ABC/Disney should of never cancled our beloved soaps AMC & OLTL ! We fans told them that we would not watch these replacement shows . . . we warned them that we wanted our soaps and we were prepared to fight for them ! A yr later glad they did something right by renewing GH but the boycott continues until they admitt their mistake and bring back AMC & OLTL !
